Yes and no. It was thd first time for Mao but the second time for Dai-chan. Wink

Dai-chan talked about the previous occasion in this video.

"I have seen the emperor once at the previous olympics. (He meant 4 years ago, at Imperial Tea Party after the olympics.) "
"I was so nervous that I remember nothing. I went there with horrible hair. ( Laughing ) Messy hair with golden meshs (stripes). It was a kind of youthful inexperience.... I'm thinking I should shave though I've grown my beard."

Seeing what he wore in the interview (casual) and the garden party (formal), it seems he knows well how to dress properly now. Cool Laughing king

Thank you so much for those various informations, Calliope!!! I love you I love you

I'm sorry I was lazy to check news in the last few days because I couldn't stop replaying his performances. (especially La Strada! Maybe more than 100 times, but I never get tired of it!!) Very Happy

Today he came back to Japan. A press interview of Mao and Dai-chan is scheduled in this evening.
At Narita Airport

At Milan Airport
http://www.nikkansports.com/sports/news/photonews_nsInc_f-sp-tp0-20100329-611844.html
He wore black suits "Considering people are waiting for me in Japan, I shouls dress tidily."

Maybe this is one of the champion's behavior. Cool
Look at the picture of his departure. Laughing
http://www.sanspo.com/sports/photos/100320/spm1003201152005-p1.htm
And he didn't give an interview at that time. In CBC commentray, Tracy Wilson said something like "Two days before this event, he said 'I can't do it, I can't go' to his coach and the federation". Shocked Surely he wasn't in the mood to be interviewed. Surprised

I went to a few bookstores near my house to buy it (Sportiva). But I couldn't find it. I will mailorder it today, probably. Please wait for a while. Wink

Dai-chan will appear in Kuwazu girai ou senshuken(食わず嫌い王選手権) in TV:Tunnels no Minasan no Okagedeshita(とんねるずのみなさんのおかげでした) tomorrow. It would be a hilarious show. Laughing Laughing jocolor

TV:Tunnels no Minasan no Okagedeshita 9:00pm- 9:54pm May 6th (JST)

Kuwazu girai ou senshuken(食わず嫌い王選手権) is a kind of guessing game. Two guest eat 4 or 5 dishes each and one of those dishes is the food which they actually don't like. After eating all dishes, they guess each other which is the least favorite one. Cool

And 2010 Frinds on Ice will be on Sat. 28th and Sun. 29th Aug. The ticket pre-order will start from this Saturday(8th). Very Happy

Dai-chan looked so cute and sweet throughout the vid but look at his face @ 4:18 after Kuamakawa-san said he could rotate 8 times. The pride of a quad jumper? LOL!!! Laughing Laughing (I think he just joked. Cool Because he went to PIW to see Mao last May and Mao went to see his stage, too. )

Too bad, they are all gone... Suspect

For the members who has downloaded before they were removed. (like me! What a Face )

Part: 1
From 2:24 (Sorry for my poor translation.. The show was so funny but my tranlastion doen't sound funny...)
A: TV announcer, Azumi-san D: Dai-chan

A:You have long sideburns as I expect.
D:Really?
A:I know it's you because of the length of the sideburns, from a distance.
D:I'm kind of dense in many ways.
A:You didn't jump at all. Do you practice jumps another day?
D:Well, I can't jump well because I took off and didn't skate for a while. I did jumps a little ago but there was no sign of my jumps... Even myself was surprised.
A: So you can't jump today.
D: I can, but please don't expect much.

D:(After he popped 3Lo.) I missed...
A:Never mind! ( Laughing )

A:(After he landed a 3Lo.) Great!
D:In fact I can do it better.
A:I know it, I watched it on TV.
D:In fact I can do more.
A:It was vigorous.
D:I wanted to show you something better.
A:Don't worry, I know it, I watched it on TV.

(It's interesting he never says excuses in competitions but Shizuka called Dai-chan "the prince of excuse" once before. And now I can see why she called him so. Cool )

A:I wonder how the world famous level4 slst looks like. I don't mean I want to see it.
D:Without music, it would look rather dumb.
A:Ok, I will sing for you here.
Laugh
A:What kind of song do you want?
D:Up to you.
A:How about Yuki Saito's Graduation? (An old song (80s?) of a Japanese idol)
D:Sorry I don't know it. But it's OK.
A:Then do you prefer Momoko Kikuchi's Graduation? (Again another idol's song.)
D:No idea.
A:OK, with Yuki Saito's Graduation.

D:(After he finished slst.) ???? (I can't hear.)
A:I know it, I watched it on TV. It's fantastic.
D:Without music, it's a bit embarrassing.
A:No, Yuki Saito's Graduation was just good with your step.

From 5:40
The Story of Dai-chan. Here is the summary of the story.

He was born on March 16 1986 as the youngest child of four brothers. His mother was disappointed because she wanted to have a girl. So she often dressed him as a girl. (Look at the picture @ 7:00. Razz )
Dai-chan was a timid little boy. After school he spent time at the barbar shop where his mother worked and rarely went out to play. The daughter of the shop, Hideko-san who named him after the ilde called "Daisuke Shima"(@9:00 LOL Laughing ), was an important person for him. His parents worried about him and recommended him various sports but he kept saying "No".

Part2:
He finally met figure skating. It was the first sport which he wanted to do voluntarily.
But figure skating is a kind of expensive sport. Dai-chan's family wasn't so rich that his mother and Hideko-san made his costume by hand and his mother did a part time job in night after she worked in the barber shop to pay his costs for figure skating.
And the local people also helped him a lot. The customer of the barber shop left their changes for him. There was a donation box in the shop, too. There also were such customers who brought half-price tickets of the ice rink or drove him to and from the rink occasionally.

Part3:
He stepped up to senior but things didn't go well. He also found his university mates enjoying their univertity life freely. Due to those frustrations, he frequently played around with this friends until late in night. He thought of quitting figure skating at that time. But he got motivated again and won the ticket to Turin Olympics.

After this, I think you guys know well about Dai-chan's story. Wink

Part4:
From 4:40
A: Are you laughing at me?
D:No, no. You are shining.
Then Azumi showed how much he could shate. Azumi-san started to chase after him, Dai-chan repeated "Scary!" "So scary!." with laugh. Next Dai-chan taught Azumi-san how to jump and they tried ice dance a bit on Azumi-san's request.

Part:5
At the end,
Asked about his future goal, Dai-chan said "I can't think about four years later at all. I'd like to find what I really want to do. I know the supports from a lot of people brought me up to here. So I'd like to find things I can do for the next generation children while I continue my competitive career."

Yesterday Dai-chan visited his old schools in his home town and attended at the Marusen special prize awarding ceremony. You can find some vids on youtube. Thank you for the posters!! Very Happy

I translated some comments.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mrvws_lKmc
In this video, he talked about his new programs.

(About Stephane Lambiel's choreography.)
There are many movements which I'm not good at, and installing such movements will expand the range of my performance. The way to use the body during steps and to capture the notes of the music which is different from me.

(About Shae-Lynn Bourne)
Her knees and ankles are very soft. She is good at the lower body movements and I'm not. The ways she captures the notes of the music and generates the atomosphere, are fabulous. She is my favorite performer.

(At the end of the video)
I hope I can show a different aspect of me.
The new season will start again. I'm spending days feeling anxiety and expctation but I will do my best so please support me.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vsZ22vbmpEM
1:00 His speech at the Marusen ceremony.
I can't think of four years later now. But I'd like to work year by year and hope four years will pass unawarely. I'd like to work hard in order to get more confidence year by year, confidence to win the gold in the olympics four years later.

1:23 After the Speech.
I'm a bit nervous so that I might have talked about what I didn't think at all.(laugh)
I think when I get confidence by woking year by year, I will be able to find the goal or what I want to do.
Well, I don't want to think of it, so it's like just to take a look on four years later without thinking.

Wow, "win the gold in the olympics four years later." ??? bounce What a Face What a Face

I guess Dai secretly decided himself that he will pursue gold at Sochi. However, he opted to work year by year so that he will not be bogged down with too much of expectations.

This is such a great way to pursue really significant goal such as Olympic gold.
This is exactly what I recommend as a therapist to people who want to loose significnt amount of weight or quite smoking.

Thats a nice observation Genki. He would say he want to work for it year by year so there won't be too much pressure on him. Right now, he just want to set his goal to defend his title for Worlds next year (after all, the Worlds will be to his advantage -home court advantage!)

Btw, after registering to nicovideo.jp, I found this funny but cute video of Daisuke during his FS practice at 2010 Worlds:

http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm10375053
The funny/cute part there is starting at 2:09 min of the video. Laughing

There aren't many news recently.... Neutral
Dai-chan is still in Japan? Or he is in Canada with Shae-Lynn? Rolling Eyes

An article in Sanyo Shinbun on 7th. There is no new information though.
http://www.sanyo.oni.co.jp/feature/sports/other/2010/07/07/20100707112332.html

Q:Five months have passed. How have you been?
A:I'm working with getting the next season's programs choreographed while participating in various ice shows around the country. As for the free program, I went to U.S. in the end of May and the base of it was almost completed. The SP is classic music. Mr. Lambiel choreographed it in Switzerland.

Q:What kind of program are they?
A:I won't reveal the details of them until the season starts. I'd like people to see them with an open mind because both of the FP and SP are different from my past programs and have the elements of surprise. I'm especially fond of the FP though the movements are hard. I'm looking forward to seeing how they will be judged in competitions.

Q: I heard you would make another SP.
A: I asked a former world ice dance champion for a choreography and we will make a program soon. I will try both of the two SPs during the season and use the better one in the WC.

Q: The scoring rule will change drastically in the next season. What do you think of it?
A: Regarding jumps, it will benefit for skaters who try quads. From the point of view of the evolution of techniques, it will encourage us to challenge more difficult jumps. Regarding spin and step sequence, the number of the requirements for level4 will increase and it will require us to practice more.

Q: You jumped 2 quads in the FP before you injured in the fall 2008, how about next season?
A: Currently I plan a quad. Considering the possibility to put a quad flip, I'm trying it in ice shows, too.

Q: Please let me hear your determination for the coming WC.
A: The goal is to win second consecutive title. I will go into other competitions, taking them as pass points. I'd like to learn various things in each of them and peak at the season's last big competition.

Quote :

So he won't skate his new SP in FOI. I expected a bit I could see Shae-Lynn's SP there... bounce

BTW, Akiko revealed that her new FP was choreographed by Pasquale. flower The music is "Fiddler on the roof".
Her SP is Jealousy choreographed by Kenji. Cool https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYH7tLdJaZ4

Takahiko still keeps his new program information secret. Suspect
According to his official fan site,

His new EX is choreographed by Kurt Browning.
SP is something cool. The music is a song we can sing along.
FP is something authentic. (?? I don't know what he meant. He said カッチリ系. So authentic or classic, I guess.)
He went to Toronto and Detroit. He stayed in Toronto longer than Detroit.
Takahiko will show his new EX in PIW Tokyo which starts tomorrow. Very Happy

That was funny! But what was Daisuke looking at? Looks like the audience were looking at what Daisuke was staring at. LOL.
