| There's a bunch of news coming out now that Worlds is over, so I thought it'd be good to make a new thread for it. I posted this in the Worlds thread already, but in May, Daisuke will undergo surgery to remove a bolt from his right knee. The surgery is a simple procedure, but will require a week of hospitalization, and afterwards he'll have to stay off the ice for a month to do rehab. Daisuke said, "I wanted to do it after Worlds next year, but if the bolt adheres then it can't be removed. I think I'll recover more quickly if it's removed earlier." ( Source) In the same article, Daisuke says, "I've found a suitable way to jump the quad flip" and will continue to challenge it next season. For next season's programs, he says he wants to try various kinds of music like jazz, Japanese-style, or Asian-style. There were various articles/interviews about him lately in newspapers and magazines too. I haven't read any of them in full (don't get evening newspapers here), but I read some summaries posted online. Some of the things mentioned: - Being a World gold medalist is completely different from being a silver or bronze medalist. When he won the silver in 2007 people just said "Congratulations" to him, but this time Tessa Virtue and many famous skaters from the past came up to him and complimented his performance. (Takeshi Honda says on his website that Kurt Browning was raving about Daisuke's performance after the competition.) - He hasn't decided who will choreograph his programs for next season yet. First he wants to decide the music with Utako and then look for a suitable choreographer. He mentioned wanting to work with Shae-Lynn Bourne, Kurt Browning, and David Wilson, among others. - Most surprising to me, is that he's started to talk about his future goals! When previously asked about his future, he said he just wanted to win gold in Vancouver and couldn't think about anything beyond that. But now, apparently he wants to build and coordinate a skating academy and gather specialists in jumps, spins, etc. to teach kids. He talked about this a little bit more in the latest issue of Sportiva: he said he used to think that after he quit skating he would want to try something completely different, but realizes now that he can't leave skating after all. So he wants to use what he's learned and pass it down to future generations of young skaters. If anyone has more details about these articles (especially the Sportiva one), I'd love to hear! Daisuke and Mao will be giving a press conference in Tokyo later today, so I'm sure there will be more news after that too. | |

| thank you so much for all the information! Yes, the skating academy idea is very ambitious, but now with Dai's influence in Japan, it shouldn't be an unreachable goal! As for his music choice- my personal pick is: Jazz alllll the way !! About the choreographers, I must admit that I am not very informed on their styles, but hm personally I am not a huge fan of David's programmes for Yuna, they seem more toward the crowd-pleasing programmes rather than instilling a unique, personal style for skaters. hah, but again, what do I know. I guess what makes Dai's such a great skater is because any program, if it's him who's skating it, will be unique, no matter how x the choreography is. :p all the best to Dai, and esp for the upcoming surgery!! | |

| Comments from the press conference: - Impression of Worlds: It was a difficult competition mentally, but he's proud of being the first Japanese man to win. Thanked the fans who cheered for him there. - On the quad: Thought of not doing it this time since he hadn't practiced it enough, but since he kept saying he wanted to do it he didn't want to go back on that. Will continue trying it next season. - On motivation for the competition: Was feeling unmotivated, but his coach said, "You can't win the lottery without buying a ticket." He thought he had to grab that chance while he had it because you never know when it'll come again, and in the future he thinks he'll be able to try new things without giving up beforehand. - For next season, he wants to do something that he's never done before for his programs. There was more, but I've forgotten already. There will probably be direct quotes in articles later though. From the interview on Fuji TV: - Thought about withdrawing from Worlds because he didn't think he could give his ideal performance in his state, but decided to go because of the Japanese fans who said they would go there to see him, and because he wanted to perform La Strada for the Italian audience. - Mao said she missed a combo at the Olympics because she thought "If I land this I'll get 9 points", and the interviewer asked Daisuke if he ever thinks about points while he's skating. He said no, but since he's made mistakes by doing too many combos in the past, he practices ways to avoid that at home. - On the 4F: he had already decided he was going to do a flip, but didn't decide whether to do 3F or 4F until right after he started skating. Decided to do a 4F because if he did a triple but then made mistakes on the other jumps he would've regretted it. - Interviewer asked if he thinks his "glass heart" has turned into a "steel heart", and he said no, he still needs to practice to have confidence so he still thinks he has a "glass heart". Also said that he would rather try something and regret rather than not try something and regret since you never know when you'll have a chance to. - Message from Hanyu! Said that it's amazing that Daisuke achieved a first for a Japanese man and wants to experience that also since he hasn't so far. (In fact, he said after his win at Junior Worlds that he wants to surpass Daisuke's bronze and be the first Japanese man to win Olympic gold in Sochi. ) But he was happy about Daisuke's win like it was his own and hopes to follow up on it. - What Daisuke wants to do most right now is relax and take a long vacation. - Mao said she admires Daisuke's expression ability. Daisuke said he admires the fact that Mao is mentally strong despite her youth (since he had a "glass heart" at her age) and thinks that her lightness is her charm. - Goal for next season: to defend his World title! If he can do that then he'll think he's actually become strong. This better be it for news tonight... I need to go to sleep! | I forgot commenting on this: - Quote :

I have longed to see Dai-chan skating programs choreographed by Shae-Lynn Bourne or Kurt Browning. I'm not interested in David Wilson's choreo, either, same as ericacsy and MissC. I think Dai-chan talked with David about choreography once when he parted from Nikolai. I'm sorry I forgot the reason why he didn't work with him... Schedule? Or maybe he just chose Pasquale as a new choreographer... I also think to have a conection with Kurt would be nice considering Dai-chan's career as as pro-skater. They will see each other again in SOI tour in Japan soon. They would talk about it there. But at the same time, I really want to see another Pasquarle's program too. La Strada is the best program I have ever seen!!! Here is the page in Takeshi Honda's official site which Calliope mentioned above. A nice picture of Team Daisuke! http://takeshihonda.net/2010/03/27/%e4%b8%96%e7%95%8c%e9%81%b8%e6%89%8b%e6%a8%a9/

| I can't fall asleep... Anyway, I just wanted to say that I agree with you guys about choreography for next season. If he doesn't work with Kenji or Pasquale again (I'd be kind of sad if he doesn't since both programs this season were so amazing, but I understand that he wants to try something new), I'd LOVE to see him work with Shae-Lynn. I was really impressed by her work with Jeremy and Akiko this season, so since a few months ago I was hoping that Daisuke would work with her too! I'm not that familiar with Kurt Browning's choreography. I know he did Evan's SP for "The Feeling Begins" and Brian's Apocalyptica LP, but neither of those impressed me that much. (Though maybe that's before because it was Evan and Brian performing them, and their programs rarely impress me anyway. I think Kurt said Brian changed a lot of his choreography too.) Has he choreographed any other competition programs for top skaters in recent years? I'm really hoping he doesn't go to David Wilson too. His programs are really hit or miss for me. I liked "The Lark Ascending" and "Danse Macabre" for Yu-Na (I think The Lark Ascending is the best ladies LP from the past four years), Jeffrey Buttle's "Ararat", and some of his programs for Nobunari. But more often than not, I feel like David's programs are really "busy", or choreographed very precisely just to get points, sometimes to the point where it seems contrived. And I just can't imagine that kind of style working for Daisuke. (Same reason why I hope he never goes to Lori Nichol!) | |

Oh, I realized, me either!! Sorry. I just thought Kurt's professinal programs were choreographed by himself, but probably I'm wrong... I like his Nyah. It's a master piece. I want to see him try jazz for his SP! I'm also agree with you about choreography. I would like to see Daisuke continue work with Kenji Miyamoto, I like his programs (and Luv Letter too . About this program I'm agree with peepsrule that it's something very special and personal and Dai-chan show us his mystic feelings and thoughts ). And I'd love to see Camerlengo's program in different style. But if Daisuke won't continue work with them, I'd like to see him with Shae-Lynn Bourne. I also was very impressed by Jeremy's SP this year. And hope he will not work with Kurt Browning or David Wilson.... On the other hand I think Daisuke can make any choice of music and choreography look fantastic...

Personal interview with Mao and Daisuke, I don't understand a thing.. but then in the middle part it seemed like they were commenting on each other and they both laughed quite a bit. Would be great if someone can translate that for us One of the questions is, "What do you want to do most right now besides rest?" and Daisuke says at first, "Go swimming at the beach and take dance lessons." But then all of a sudden he says he wants to get his driver's license so it'll be easier to commute to the rink for practice. Next they're asked when they first met, and they can't quite seem to remember, but apparently it was some competition. Then they're asked to tell a story about each other. Daisuke says that when they were at a training camp in Canada together a few years ago (when Mao was really young I think), Mao saw Daisuke practicing and asked, "Why aren't you doing full run-throughs?" (He didn't like to do full run-throughs back then.) And Daisuke replied, "I'd like to, but I don't have enough stamina." For Mao's story, she says, "I think all the skaters know already, but when Dai-chan drinks alcohol he becomes really high-tension." Then Daisuke says he got really drunk in Torino and was very loud and annoying, so he had to apologize for his behavior. At the end, they're asked about their goals for next season. Daisuke says he's going to continue practicing 4T and 4F, and wants to do a completely new genre for his programs. In the Sporto interview, the two new things he said was 1.) He didn't think he could win the gold medal at Worlds because his motivation was so low, and he thought that it would be a close competition if the skaters who placed below him at the Olympics skated perfectly. He felt pressure before going to Torino, but after he arrived and started skating, didn't feel any at all. And 2.) He's happier about his Olympic bronze than his Worlds gold, because he felt like he really aimed for the Olympic medal and won it, but at Worlds it was like "Oh, I ended up winning gold (like almost by accident)." Also, if anyone wants to watch the full press conference, it's up here: http://www.news24.jp/articles/2010/03/30/09156349.html

| https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mT676kiDMFkAnother interview with Daisuke and Mao from yesterday. Is this the last one? I can't keep track anymore! Some of the questions are the same as in previous interviews, but there are some new ones. Q: How would you rate your season (out of 100 points)? Mao said 100 first, and then Daisuke said "Everything ended well, so 100." Q: How would you rate the exhibition? Mao: 100! Daisuke: I was just terrible! Mao thinks it went pretty well, but Daisuke pointed out a mistake he made after the throw jump. The interviewer asks if they planned to skate together as a pair, and they said that the choreographer told them to do it since they were both going to appear together anyway. Then the guy asks them if they want to try it again sometime, to which Daisuke immediately says "Noooo" but Mao says "Yes!" So then Daisuke is like "Huh? Again?" Q: Do you normally get along with the person sitting next to you? Daisuke: Next to me...? And the interviewer points to Mao, so he says yes. (ROFL, who else do you think is sitting next to you, Daisuke? ) Mao talks about when they trained in Canada together when she was in fourth grade, and says that she still has a lot of fun talking to Daisuke now. Daisuke says he's known Mao since she was little so she's like his little sister, but all of a sudden she grew up without him noticing so that's kind of shocking. Q: Is there something you're into right now other than skating? Daisuke: Lately I've been into buying manga. There's a convenience store near my house that sells One Piece figurines, and every time new ones come out I buy them all. So I'm sort of into collecting them. Q: Do you want to escape from your skating-focused life for awhile? What do you want to do most in your private life right now? Daisuke: I want to go on a trip without my skates. Anywhere is fine, just someplace where I can relax. | |

In the dream, Evan was thrown in a Japanese jail because he got in Dai's way. Although Evan referred to the "Japanese guy", I don't think he was talking about Nobu or Kozu. - Calliope wrote:

I had a good laugh over this yesterday morning! I find it a little surprising that Dai would get drunk! For some reason, it's hard for me to imagine Dai, Nobu, and Kozu drinking alcohol.
