Thanks Pattina for posting the great memories. I always get nostalgic for Dai when
I watch the men's competition at NHK. Dai brought so much excitement and flair

Hi all, thanks for all the links, thoughts and goodies!

Apparently, Dai remains submerged, and meanwhile fans are trying to create a worthy retrospective of his single skater career.
Nobu san is really great with the "Moments" collections!

Honestly, I already get nervous flutter when I think of "全日本".
Last year during Dai's FS, I dived under my desk, unable to watch further.

Later I wondered what brought him so out of balance after being so calm at the SP. The surprisingly good placement? The signal from JSF to possibly nominate him for World's?
Well, Dai being Dai ... he probably even reacts to electricity in the air...
You've all known that for much longer than me.

This year, the focus will probably be different. Who cares about placements or even nominations? Not me anyway.
I wish Dai a magical performance and that he stays calm enough to enjoy it and give his fans and audience some memorable moments

The lot is being drawn, Shoma says "Hikarete shimatta" - Dai's line from Hyoen "I was attracted" - but (if I got it right) it also means "It was drawn" (the lot)

The name of the winner is read out.
Then Dai asks him to appear by singing "Raise, stand up" etc. - it's the original song lyrics.
At the end, Shoma shouts "Ikuzo!" = "Let's go!" That was Genji's battle cry before the song.

Hi Pattina, Shyla & Sonabilis.  Thanks so much for the warm welcome back.  I so appreciate all that the 3 of you have done and continue to do with your contributions.  The many links, insights and opinions are invaluable and much appreciated!  I, and I'm sure many others who read here, are indebted to you all.

I was watching one of the competitions and the Canadian announcers were talking about the up and coming skaters and one of the announcers mentioned she had heard rumours of a new Ice Dance team who would excite us all.  She never said their names but I'm sure she was referring to Dai.  So his new endeavour has reached the Canadian world of skaters.

Brand new, tweeted by Dai fans just a couple of hours ago: on Christmas Day Dai is scheduled to take part at the opening event of Kansai Ice Arena, a new public rink in Osaka. Dai has been one of the testimonial for the project started in 2016 and now he is taking part at the event with other skaters of the Kansai area (among them Satoko Miyahara, Rika Kihira and Yuna Shiraiwa, who trains at the Kansai University)

I don't know the original source and/or when/where the original pic was taken, but it seems years ago. Dai was backstage at the musical show visiting a friend/cast member.

A small movement study

Always fascinating in the ice shows: the difference between Dai and the other skaters in the group choreos. There are worlds in between!

Thanks sonabilis and Nobu san for the great gif. Look at Lysacek in the background: stiff and expressionless (sorry, Evan, but your skating skills did not include artistry). The way Dai bends his body and blades is magnetic and so awesome for its great sense of ease.

Posted today but dating back to 21 November: one more pic of Dai-chan and Chai-san after hair-maintenance. I really hope Dai changes this hair-cut. OK, his fronthead is free, but that parting of the hair is not good for him (my opinion, of course).

Next week the Grand Prix Final will take place again in Italy, in Turin (unfortunately I cannot go for many personal reasons) where it already took place in 2007 . Since a couple of seasons Dai had started to be a famous name in fs world and 2007/2008 was the season he rocked the ice with his "Hip Hop Swan" and in Turin he put the arena on fire, showing that he could - and he still can!!!!  - skate any kind of music and any style with great skills.  He was first after SP ahead of Stéphane Lambiel for less than one point. In FS although Dai's TES was higher, Sté gained more in PCS and passed him just by 0.16        With his Season Best Dai won silver.

After 12 years Swan Lake HipHop is still so great and innovative. I think no-one else has dared to skate to this music again, because the comparison with Dai would have been pitiless. Of course other skaters have tried hiphop (this season Nathan Chen does a bit in his FS, I think) but noone with the right moves, the high skating skills and the right "face and spirit".  Looking at Dai I see a brazen boy who shows to audience he has the world at his feet with the arrogance and beauty of young age. But Dai does it with a wonderful smile that conquers all the hearts.

I know this story from somewhere -- that both devoured a lot of fries, thus comforting about their missed medal chances. Later, Dai lamented about his supposedly "fat belly" on footage of his Exhibition performance.

Yes, sonabilis, the story about Dai and Tatsuki was revealed by Dai-chan, too, months after Sochi. And Dai told he gained almost 5 kilos in the 15 days between Free Skating and the Gala. I remember reading somewhere that he was shocked was he watched the video of his EX and the "protruding stomach".

Recruiting Chinese Kids - good idea. They will surely find more than enough excellent applicants who are eager to travel to Yokohama. If I was a Chinese skating kid, or a parent, I would do anything for it  
The whole show seems to be planned unusually late. On the leaflets available on CaOI, there was no title and no participants yet.
And now it's only 6 weeks until then but it seems the program is not ready. I guess some people in management are working quite hard at the moment  
But I am sure it will become wonderful.  

"Romeo & Juliet" is actually the only one of Dai's programs that literally tells me nothing.  I feel he and the music do not unite there.
In terms of jump layout, it was probably the most demanding program he had ever had. Yes, it has given him the world record. But what does that help when it's boring.. (my opinion)

The immortal Cyber ​​Swan ... am I wrong, or was this remix created specifically for Dai's program? - In fact, no one else ever dared to.
But this season, there is an inflation of programs on "Blues for Klook".

Practicing hard for Nationals, the switch to Ice Dance with all the related interviews/press conference etc, but it's not enough for Dai-chan: he is also the manager for the artistic side of the show..... yes, I bet Dai is pretty busy now and probably something has to be delayed. Samarin can do great jumps, but that's all.

Agree about Samarin when his jumps don't work there is not much going on.

Love that performance from Dai at Worlds. He should have won that title but
it is old news not worth rehashing. We have the performance to view anytime we want.

I remember Dai was asked in an interview after his retirement about judging no reference
was made to any particular competition just a general question he replied that he really
only questioned his scores and placement once. When he was pressed on which time
Dai being his humble and respectful self deftly changed the subject. We all knew
which competition he was talking about.
