As for Deniss... it is a common trend on Twitter and social media: when a single skater (Man or Lady) cannot keep up with quads and/or is considered "old", many people suggest him/her to switch to Pairs or Ice Dance **. Deniss did a WONDERFUL Free at Euros, with only one quad (perfectly executed, btw) and a super high Grade of Execution in all his technical elements and lot of Artistry overall. This is Figure Skating. Maybe he was just having fun during a pause in practice or learning some more artistry or skill, why not.
** they said the same for Dai when he announced the switch: the most common comment from haters was "he is old, he can jump no more, so he is running away to hide, full of shame and forgotten by all" - LOL AND LOL AND LOL and so on - to all haters: you should hide: Dai is still in the heart of any fs lovers all over the world and Japanese/world press is still praising him, his achievements and beautiful skating.

Good morning Pattina,
ha ha who thinks Deniss wants to ice dance now must be really a fool. Yes he has had a huge success winning Euro-bronze, and I just love to watch him, quads or not. Just like Jason Brown btw. That massive quad jumping has come to make me cringe rather than enjoy, honestly.
As for Dai, he has far exceeded the wildest expectations and is receiving great worldwide appreciation right now. But we don't need to think it will somehow impress the "haters." As soon as their constructions collapse in the face of reality, they are replaced by new ones. They are of the same intellectual caliber as the people who spread conspiracy tales about Corona. "Both hop and malt are lost there", as it is said in my language
Have a nice SunDai!

Thanks for the updates everyone! The haters that are the worst imo are the ice dance fans, every single competition that Kanadai are in they complain they were overscored and the judges are blind, their levels were not deserved, etc. etc. and don't get me started on the criticisms they give to Dai's body lines and they always preface their hate by saying I loved Dai as a single skater. They are such snobs because there is more than one style of Ice Dance. Kanadai have worked so hard to achieve their results that some of the criticisms are ridiculous and untrue.
Congrats to Kazuki for winning the Silver Medal, well done. I would have had him in first but Cha eeked out the win. I really don't understand the PC's discrepancy Kazuki deserved better. Good job from Kao Miura for winning the Bronze and happy that Sena Miyake placed fourth.

Oh yes Shyla, Kazuki was really on fire! I'm afraid PCS guidelines (or politics?) will remain an eternal mystery to me.
I really didn't know there is such massive hostility from "ice dance fans" towards Kanadai. Huh... Maybe lucky that I'm not that deep in the FS world. Yes what Kanadai have accomplished must seem uncanny to some people who consider themselves experts. Probably it's their coping strategy
Anyway, noticing the bitching about body lines, roles, how who should look and move, I feel getting explosive. If they're stuck on stereotypes from the 60s, they should kindly go on a time travel.

Here come the promised Kana&Dai quotes.
Translation with DeepL. Again, the pronouns "I" and "we" are usually added by translator. In original, they are mostly missing; what is meant results from context or remains vague.
◇Kana Muramoto "I remembered the competition with Chris"
Before I came to Tallinn, I was reminded that Chris and me were the first Asian couple to win a bronze medal at 4CC. Four Continents with Chris was a very special competition.
I was hoping to come back to 4CC with Dai-chan like this, and further improve (our results). I wasn't satisfied with the performance in RD and FD, but I'm very happy to be in second place with Dai-chan, the best result in Japan, even though I made some mistakes. I'm happy, but on the other hand, I'm still frustrated that we can still do more. I think I want to compete with the best in the world more than I think I do.
◇Daisuke Takahashi: "I'm getting greedy in many ways."
Since the beginning of this season, it has been a blink of an eye until we won medals on four continents. In fact, I came here with the goal of getting on the podium, and although RD wasn't great, we came in second, so I was aware of the podium. In FD, I remembered the tension of aiming for the podium in Singles, but as an ice dancer, I felt different feelings in 4CC. Thinking back to last season, I couldn't imagine myself on the podium. I was so happy to be a silver medalist, but at the same time, I felt so frustrated, I couldn't perform 100%. But I was a little surprised at myself, and I was able to experience a lot of different feelings. It was a special four continents for me.
In Japan, couples competitions are not major. It's a chance to get attention and interest by getting results. It's great news that we were able to win a silver medal as an Asian. I'm happy we were able to give many people a chance to get to know.
Looking at this season's results, we're kind of silver collectors, or rather, we've only won second places. We haven't made a clear decision (about next season and beyond), but I'm beginning to feel that I'd like to try for a gold medal, or to stand in the middle of the podium. I'm sure I'll be able to see a lot of different sights in the future. I'm gradually getting greedy in many ways, so I guess I'm looking forward to the future.
[Dai] "Our timing. I was a little late. We were both going in opposite directions, so Yanaka's foot went down. ......
[Kana] "There is no speed at this point, so it's a matter of balance, and the slightest change in timing can lead to a mistake. We need to think about that again.
[Dai] "It was my mistake today, and I'm really depressed right now."
When Takahashi looked down, Muramoto followed up with a comforting "No, no, no," beside him. Even when the performance was not as they had hoped, the feeling of caring for each other is an essential element of their partnership. In this respect, the two seem to have a very good chemistry.
Coach Marina Zueva explained the reason for the overlap of mistakes between the All-Japan Championships and this competition.
"In ice dance, no matter how many times you perform it, you have to do it exactly the same way. Kana has already a lot of experience, but Daisuke still needs to gain more experience. This is not an easy task. He needs time."
When we see the name Daisuke Takahashi, fans and the general public are tempted to expect too much. But he has only been an ice dancer for two years.
[after FD]
[Dai] "We didn't make any big mistakes, but the timing wasn't quite right in some places, and it was a bit disjointed in others, so I wasn't able to give 100% in terms of feeling. But with so little time between All-Japan and Four Continents, I think we were able to make it work rather well."
[Kana] This is only our second season, and I feel again amazed that we're in second place in an international competition. [Kana] We were on the podium, but we didn't perform as well as we should have. What I feel is that both of us still want to aim for a higher level...
[Dai, replying on what the future plans are] It's something that the two of us can only create together, so we need to make sure that our feelings match and that we're heading in the same direction. We've been feeling a lot of frustration throughout this season, and I still want to see a different scenery, and I can't be satisfied with that feeling. I want to take time to think about it after the World Championships, but it's fun to perform as an ice dancer, and I think it's a really wonderful time.
PS "You are the reason" today. Still charming, though.... feels a little bit like clothes they've almost outgrown. (I was really hoping for Soran...). But it's certainly more gentle on the body.... maybe it was necessary.
Wish them good rest and recovery before they start working for the World's!

Dear all,
apologize, of course I did not want you to have bad memories of haters. Shyla and Sonabilis, yours are wise words: it's useless trying to understand haters' minds. Let them live their miserable lives without joy, while we can still enjoy Dai's wonderful performances
Unfortunately I had a very busy week-end and really I had no time to watch anything but Ice Dance. But from many tweets I understand that Dai celebrated Kazuki's Free skating jumping high
During both Press Conferences US Anthony Ponomarenko recalled that the first Olympic figure skating competition he saw was Vancouver 2010 (he was 9 yso) and he still had the memory of Dai's Free and winning the bronze medal. So it's quite normal he did a selfie with KanaDai
("Are you sure..." = Dai's doubtful question to Kana, 3 years ago now).
*
From what I could see online, the Estonian skating fed had managed to create 4CC well, safely and with a lot of atmosphere. Big thanks to them for that!
KanaDai are probably heading to Florida now. Japan, with ongoing entry restrictions, would certainly make little sense. I wonder what other of their dates and plans have fallen through because of that quarantine. Surely there was quite a bit. Dai must have been under the weather around JNats, by what exactly isn't known. There was info among fans that he couldn't eat all day between competitions.
Now the two may recover from strain and constant public attention. Dive, you two fishes, into your realm! May we see you again soon with refreshed energy!

So sorry for Misha. I really like his skating and Olympic ice would have been the perfect stage for his The White Crow
"Daisuke Takahashi's life is a story not found in manga and novels" - this is a new article by Yoshiyuki Komiya san with interview to Nagamitsu sensei. Igs has tweeted the link to article and translated a couple of quotes.
A bit off-topic. The Olympic journey for figure skating starts on 04th February with the Team Event. Unfortunately for me, Team Event and various single competitions will start in the Chinese morning, which is full night for Italy (02 or 03 am). Let's hope European fs lovers can catch up with videos and tv reports.

Hi everyone,
Pattina thanks für the updates! A Kana IGS recently told us they must be back in Florida (a still life pic with palm trees).
Seems the aera.dot article is the 1st half of an extensive interview. The full version is only available in print. Interviewer is Akiko Tamura. She is one of three Japanese journalists who follow Kana&Dai constantly and closely, publishing numerous articles and interviews that often go deeper than the standard reports. The other two are Akiko Tanaka and Yoshiyuki Komiya.
"If a few years ago someone had told you that the ISU Four Continents Championships 2022 would be held in Europe and Daisuke Takahashi would win silver... in ice dance, would you have believed it?" 4CC article in "Absolute Skating"
J SPORTS aired the TV recording of 4CC over the weekend. The commentator was Ayako Higashino. She is an ISU technical specialist, and according to fans reports, she was part of JNats jury last December. A blogger transcribed her comments on KanaDai's RD and FD performances. As expected, she was quite specific about quality of elements and overall skating. And she is very enthusiastic and positive about KanaDai!
** ETA Dai-chan has rediscovered his IG! And comes along with ..... a bed story Translation attempt (maybe a better one will turn up)
click:
I ordered a pillow and an overlay to support my sleep this season, and they have been supporting me during my stay at the hotel for NHK-Cup and helping me sleep well every day in the US.
I used to think that pillows should fit pillows and overlays should fit overlays, but it seems that both pillows and overlays are compatible with each other. I used to think that the firmer the overlay and the pillow, the better, but when I got a comprehensive diagnosis, I was surprised by the unexpected results!
I sleep a lot, but my back and shoulders used to hurt when I slept too much, but even if I sleep for a long time, it doesn't echo the next day.
Sleep is the best recovery! Now I sleep every day in comfort!

Sonabilis, thanks for the updates and translation of Dai's new IG.
You mentioned Akiko Tanaka san and she just published an interview with Patrick Chan on Number Bushun. Patrick is now a lovely dad and started a new careeer as real estate agent. In this interview he talks about his Olympic times and rivals
Google translation
Still, he [Patrick] follows competitions on tv and videos. He was also a commentator on Skate Canada and on television during the Canadian Championships. What did you think of Daisuke Takahashi's conversion to ice dancing, which he had been competing for a long time?
"I was surprised that he had improved so much in a short period of time, but to tell the truth, when I was active, I thought that if anyone of us turned to ice dancing, it would be Daisuke. I myself thought that ice dancing seemed interesting. " "I was training on the same rink as Kana (Kana Muramoto) and Detroit, so I know her very well. I think Kana, who has a good personality and patience, is the best partner for Daisuke. I want them to do their best, "

Congrats to first ever Oly Team Bronze for Japan! What a brillant team! Shoma at his best, Yuma proving he's a rising star, Wakaba debuting with flying colors, Kaori leaving no doubt and Rikuryu utterly outstanding. KoKo did what they could within their possibilities. Really great!
In a sense, KanaDai are getting a "triumph in absentia" right now. With their recent 4CC success as a reference they have a good standing, and given the Beijing scores, there should be no doubt who is the leading ice dance team in Japan.
But as we could hear, their goals are elsewhere, and higher. They now have time for further evolution. I am very curious to see what they'll become after two more months!

Congrats to Team Japan!!! Unfortunately I was able to watch very few moments from Team Event (and I guess of all other individual competitions, too). So, so happy for Japanese skating. And what a brilliant achievement for Yuma and Shoma with the Short Program.
Off Topic: Kenji Miyamoto sensei is the choreographer of Shoma's Short of this season. Almost all media released this iconic poseand I could not help thinking of Daisuke, how he too would have been wonderful and would have used this movement and this gaze to enchain the audience
Off Topic 2 - it seems that a "legal issue" is ongoing for Team Event standings. It's not at all clear about what kind of issue, but the news arrive from Canada, while the medal award ceremony has been delayed in order to solve the issue

Hi everyone. Nothing new about KanaDai.
So, while waiting we can cheer for Yuma and Shoma and their silver/bronze medals Great achievement, boys!!! And congrats to Nathan for gold. Yuzu deserves a special mention for his 4A attempt. 2nd, 3rd and 4th: Team Japan Men did a great job at Olympic Games!! And kudos to Italian Daniel Grassl, first European Man with his seventh place. I'm so proud of him.
I'm so upset by the ROC doping situation. It seems they don't care at all about health of their athletes.

Hi everyone,
seems to me Dai is following his usual habit of never stealing attention for his fellow athletes. Maybe we'll hear from them both after Olympics.
Adding my congrats to the Japanese guys, to Nathan of course, but as well to Jason for his stunning performance! Shame Jason isn't invited to the Gala. Big congrats also for a well-deserved Olympic Gold to Papadakis/Cizeron! I haven't had time to watch anything from FD yet. The Tweet accounts of ice dance explained and Lutzes & Waxels reported in detail - critical also towards the top contenders. Very instructive for ID noobs like me
A deep field of top competitors of incredible level.... All the more amazing Kanadai's achievement to make it into 2nd tier of the world's best in such a short time. Who would have thought of such a success 2 years ago... when quite a few people considered it a hopeless or even ridiculous attempt? Looking forward to their further evolution, which they will (hopefully) be able to show soon
The doping case can only be called terrible. I'm feeling like watching a bomb detonating in slow motion, destroying things and humans one after another, and you can nothing do about it
The sagacious Tatsuki Machida comes to mind. His latest book is about to be published, and he recently gave an interview on his basic theses. He also discusses the question of whether the age for senior competitions should be raised (saying it should be decided scientifically, not ad hoc politically) He thinks modern sport is basically an expression or condensate of our modern competitive society, both developed simultaneously. And equally, both are reaching limits beyond which further growth is no longer sustainable, but instead destroys resources: those of nature and those of the human body. Interesting thoughts, I'd love to read more of it. ETA. Sources: Some translations thanks to iguana012 Another quote and link to original Nikkansports article
Sorry for lots of OT!

This is pretty cool. Dai and Kana are featured in this piece on Bonita Gym.
Please forgive me, I can't help but leave two more OT remarks here.
First, by now some skaters are likely to bless their fate of not being selected for Beijing. Especially Russian women. That actually says it all about the sad situation.
Second, I'm happy for the athletes shining on "Olympic ice" and fulfilling their dreams. But all the time I couldn't forget what a matrix-like environment it was taking place in. Yes, China proved it can construct the world's greatest matrix. A closed dream world providing impressive media visuals and, despite a lack of audience, apparently being able to get the athletes into "olympic feeling". My stomach ache about it remains nevertheless. In short, I fear the world will have to pay a price to China for these Olympics, a political price.
*
As mentioned in the Kana tweet above, Dai's previous Olympic performances are currently surfacing in fans' collective memory and being posted on social media. The other day, a fan tweeted that following such a tweet + link to YT, surprisingly found the "La Bayadère" video. The (former) fan had not known about Dai's switch to ice dance!
Btw two of the three KanaDai 4CC performance videos from Fuji Sports TV have exceeded 1 million views (Japan only, b/c geoblocked). Even the fans are surprised.

Congrats to Kaori and her wonderful performances, especially the Free, a masterpiece of high tecnique and beauty of skating. I acknowledge Trusova's high technical jumping skill, but that's all she has to show. Kaori was the best way to close the Women competition. A well deserved bronze medal, conquered without quads.
