-How do you feel after finishing the FD?Muramoto Well, I'm relieved to have finished skating safely. In the morning practice,
I had more pain in my leg than I expected, so I was worried about whether I would be okay.
It was our first time to compete at All-Japan, and I must have given Dai-chan a lot of anxiety....
Throughout the whole RD and FD, Dai-chan supported me 100%. I felt protected, and I'm really grateful for that.
But I'm really glad that we were able to put it all together.
Takahashi In the morning practice, I was pretty worried when I saw her
and she seemed to be in a lot of pain. But Kana-chan was already like 'I can handle it',
and she spent the morning looking forward to it, so I had to support her.
Honestly speaking, I did my best, but I regret that I wasn't able to perform as well as I should have.
But I thought that the experience of skating on the big stage of All-Japan would be useful for the next time.
To be honest, I'm quite frustrated, but I have no choice but to use this frustration for the next time.
-What were you talking about before your performance?Muramoto Today's conversation was about doing our best, and then I said,
[speaking English] 'See you in heaven' (laughs).
The story is about the two main characters, Nikiya and Solor, dancing in heaven, or rather in a fantasy world.
In English, it's like "See you in heaven" (laughs). It was a joking conversation to ease the tension.
-What's your harvest [gain] of this competition and your issues to work on?Muramoto: We have a lot of work to do. It's not about one of us, it's really about the two of us,
doing ice dance like one person, so even if we can practice this sense of speed a little more,
we might not be able to show it on stage, and unison is something that takes time to practice.
The lifts need to be more stable... But really, it's everything. I feel like we have everything to work on.
Takahashi The harvest...well.... Both the RD and FD have improved a lot since NHK Cup in terms of presentation in front of an audience.
We were able to feel each other's emotions more than at NHK Cup, so I think this was a great harvest for us.
This time I felt that this would come out more and more as I gain experience, so I think that is a very good harvest point.
The issues, that's almost everything (laughs). I think we have no choice but to steadily improve the level bit by bit.
-Looking back on the yearTakahashi I think we've accomplished a lot in virtually no time, and I'm very happy that we've worked hard
to achieve what Kana envisions, and of course I do, too.
Muramoto Coach Oleg has really supported us technically since he came to Japan.
Coach Marina would call me every day and ask, "How are you doing? She was like, "We have no choice but to do it."
And then last night, it was really interesting, because I got a phone call...
Takahashi I don't know anything about that (laughs).
Muramoto I forgot to tell it (laughs). [Marina said] "There is no straight road to get to such a beautiful and wonderful point.
It's all a long and winding road to reach your wonderful goal. A clean straight road only goes to hell.
[in English] "Straight to hell." (Laughs).
So, there are many things that really support me emotionally. It really helps. (Miyamoto) Kenji-sensei, for the choreography...
Takahashi In terms of choreography, we're doing quite a bit together,
so Kenji-sensei supported the parts where we couldn't come up with ideas,
and when Coach Oleg came to visit, he came with us and took videos, and he helped us in many different ways.
Muramoto: Everyone supported us.
Takahashi: Even yesterday, or the day before yesterday, after we had a little accident, he was like,
'Dai-chan, get a grip!' (laughs).
Muramoto Really? (laughs)
Takahashi: He gave me a pep talk, and that got me fired up a bit. He's a senior ice dancer,
so his words when his partner is going through something difficult like that really resonate with me.
-How did you overcome the anxiety of not being able to practice much this morning,
and how did you overcome the difficult situation together?Takahashi "We had practiced the FD for a long time, I mean really long time -
rehearsed the choreography very early and practiced a lot on it.
So I was reassured by the fact that it would work "somehow."
But her (Muramoto-san's) leg was not in good condition, so it was impossible to practice too much ...
Muramoto: We didn't talk to each other that much in the morning, did we?
Takahashi: That's right. We practiced just to see how Kana felt when she stood on the ice.
I've been preparing myself to give it my all at any time.
Muramoto: But the most we talked when we entered the venue and after warm up.
"I'm really fine now. I'm in better condition than I was in the morning, and I can hold on better,
so I'm really fine." Anyway, I just kept saying that I was fine.
- Takahashi-san, did you lose your balance three times in practice or just on the show?Takahashi: I was very calm in the first half and felt really good. Even after I made a mistake,
I stayed very calm, but then I made another mistake that seemed to come out of nowhere.
I don't know myself what caused it. On the Twizzling, the last mistake happened, and I got nervous.
But other than that, I felt really good, so I'll watch the video later and check it out.
-Does it have anything to do with the fact that you couldn't practice in the morning?Takahashi: Personally I don't think it has much to do with it ...
Muramoto: But I think there's a difference between checking in the morning practice
and not checking, so I'm really sorry about that... (laughs)
Takahashi: There have been some changes from the NHK Cup to Nats, and it doesn't feel
fully accustomed to the body yet, which may have had some influence.
But I can't make excuses for that, because I have to prepare for it.
A mistake is a mistake, so I'll reflect deeply on it and make it right next time.
