Choreographer David Wilson had high praise for Daisuke Takahashi, who is returning to competition following a four-year retirement, after working with him in Toronto last month on his new short program “The Sheltering Sky.”

“It went really well and he’s more amazing than ever,” Wilson wrote in an email to Ice Time. “You can really see the increased maturity in his skating. It was so much fun and inspiring for me to work with him again. He’s just the coolest guy in skating!!!”

Dai-chan... I understand you feeling because you "only" got an Olympic bronze medal (how many skaters spend their entire life dreaming of Oly podium and they never climb on it or even get near????) but please fix in your head once and for all      that you were THE FIRST Japanese Man to get it.
This will be never cancelled !!!!!!!!!!!!!! no matter how many Olympic medals Japanese skaters will collect in the future.

Interview is long (2 pages). Nothing really new. Dai states he decided to compete again as the only way to regain the skating abilities he needs to perform [in shows] at his best.  Just some lines with on-line translator:

he started cooking and he has lost 3/4 kilos reducing also his fat percentage in respect of the time he used to take his meals out.

He decided to ask David for a program because he liked his Free for Mai Mihara in last season.

He took final decision after last Nats. Watching Sota Yamamoto, who made the crowd stand out even though his jumps were not good and Koshiro Yamada, who still competes while working full time "I noticed that there are other ways to fight"

After retirement, he had many experiences: living in New York, dancing on stage, and working as a reporter "althought I was not very good at speaking"

"After experiencing various things, I felt that I was the most lively when I was skating"  

"I am having fun skating now"        

"As long as I can skate, I want to show the best performance in various places"

OT - Typhoon Jabi has hit Japan very hard, specially in Osaka area. International Kansai Airport is flooded, bridges and roads are damaged, tiles and facade run down from buildings.

Let's pray for all Japanese people, of course, but I specially think about Dai and  dear Japanese fans living in that area. Oh my, they already faced heavy earthquake in June and now this.

Thanks, Shyla! Yes, it has been a great time. Shoma won the competition, although his Free is still "work in progress". Good job from Kaori and Mako, who won bronze medal in Ladies competition. Among Men, I was very impressed by Dmitri Aliev and the growth of Matteo Rizzo. I met nice people (2 very nice Japanese ladies living in London), got some autographes and enjoyed a wonderful time.

Dai's commitment for ice skating and for saving ice rinks from closure is well known. The Rinkai Sports Center icerink was saved thanks to his efforts. Completely renovated, the rink will open on 14 October 2018 with a commemorative exhibition and Dai will take part (14 October.... 4 years later.... is it just a coincidence or karma or was it intentionally choosen? Probably we will never know)

In describing his work in 2017 for British Ice-Dancers Penny Coomes/Nicholas Buckland, music composer/arranger Rob Colling reported about the Short Dance (last season was "Latin music")  

Nick and Penny loved the excitement of figure skating legend Daisuke Takahashi’s 2010 short program, which used the Perez Prado version of ‘Historia de un Amor’ along with DJ Dero’s samba-techno masterpiece ‘Batucada’.
