I had a few times of talk with my LINE friend who went Friday Premiere, Saturday and Sunday shows of LOTF. I asked if I can share some part of it as a sort of credited article with my fellow Dai-lovers of Non-Japanese speakers. She gave me an OK either as anonymous or using name “zelig”.

zelig: There were two ladies sitting next to me, not Dai followers but dance lovers, and they were impressed by “Hometown Glory”
(Notes by me: The same number by Adele from last year but Dai now dances with two other dancers, one at a time, and Dai without his shirt on just like other dancers)
Twind: Oh, they took notice of that one? I’m glad. 😆 I’m really happy.
zel: After the Part 1 finished, they were like; “It’s more fun than I thought, don’t we feel like coming back bringing XXX with us?” “Is it until 25th? It is so short!” “Why don’t they advertise more, having this great level of thing?” “Daisuke san looks more like making turns than dancing. Since his body is small, the dancers tend to stand out more to our eyes, right?” …but,
Tw: I felt that something is a little bit missing in that number last year, though it wasn’t bad in the very last show, (I still had few specific parts as my favorite)
zel: They had tanned skin, hair dyed brown-red, arms tattooed. They are the type of people who talk during the performance 😅 it was interesting to see their black-and-white reaction to each one they like or not.
The Part 2 seems to appealed to them much more than the Part 1, and they reacted a lot to the two programs of the boxes/cubes by the dancers (not changed from the last year) and, “hometown—“
Tw: ..Then, I found that this time he is now with stupendous professionals (You can find videos on Youtube) for this, and I thought, uh-oh, how hard do they have to push him to the edge, those ruthless ppl (the directing gang)
zel: Right. Many thought that way (about last year’s “hometown”)
zel: And yes, those two who dance w Dai in hometown are the greater ones within the newly added dancers (I think), having strong characters and the kind you would remember the name first
zel: Then, oh, my... every motion of choreography is terrifyingly convincing .. never want to blink for a nanosecond. And about performing with the great dancers, they had synergy effect, resonating and amplifying each other, and still, Daisuke san was the main figure. He never looked less than them at any moment.
zel: Oh, and the choreography Daisuke is dancing is the same as last year
zel: So I understood, “Oh.. the directors could see this scenery.”
Tw: I see. Ohhhhh, I want to see it so bad.
zel: Something like, the enigmatic smoothness of the texture or the moisture, that naturally comes with Daisuke’s body, is a vital part of this program. There is this much meaning for Daisuke to dance with his naked body.
Tw: Yes. ｡ﾟ(ﾟ´ω`ﾟ)ﾟ｡
zel: The lighting was sooo very dark. So, most of the time one felt that in silhouette … from time to time you could see a flash of image highlighted.
zel: But it was... so eloquent, Daisuke san’s body. It’s not the question of the amount of exposure, but the matter is that there is nothing to hide that his body is singing.
zel: Oh, all of sudden words started coming out, about what I couldn’t put into words before.

zel: Good morning. Hometown Glory of the last night show.., my heart aches just by remembering it… In the middle of the song, for a moment, the melody stops and the sound of lub-dub, the beating of the heart, echoes on the stage. (was it like that last year? I don’t remember…) At that time, Daisuke san is standing still putting a hand around his neck and the other hand on his chest, looking like listening to his heart beating, and checking to see the warmth of himself living.
Soon the music starts again, and he lets his limbs stretch, opens them wide and be free, and starts dancing again. Thinking about it now my heart is filled with the feelings I can’t put into words.
Darn! Off to work now 😭

| Dear Twind, thank you and your friend for sharing with us her comments and feeling!!! You both are so special, in gifting us with it!!! So glad to know that he is appreciated as dancer also by people who are not his fans and still can understand his deep sense of musicality and his inner talent for expressing himself with dance. As always, Dai is able to find a connection with any kind of audience I really love the way Zelig san talks about Dai dancing barechested. Something that occurrs often for professional dancers, but Dai is not and on the ice he never skated in that way being always so modest and reserved (until Lacrimosa and 2017 Homeless), so I think it's a great step forward for him. I was already sure and now Zelig san's words confirm my mind: he is not doing this just to be "sexy and hot" for his fans but because he feels that nude skin can help him in expressing his natural being, pure dance and movements that don't need attractive costumes to be appreciated. The description of Hometown Glory sends shivers down my spine. I'm so moved.... This lady uploaded some videos of curtain call at LOTF2017 (you'll find also 2016 videos). | Hi Pattina! Dai certainly is getting ambitions with the splits. Of course the auntie in me
worries about his knee in that position.
Even though we have only seen bits and pieces of LOTF2 it seems to be just as successful
as LOTF1. Love the photos of Charlie and Dai! Great to see Utako in attendance supporting her
star pupil! Dai looks very happy in that photo with the pro skater and Utako and she
looks so proud of him!

From tweets I understand that it was even better. Dai has improved according to Cheryl and choreographers and I bet audience felt it. And I cannot help but being once again amazed by Dai's huge "natural" talent. He himself said that, after LOTF2016, he stopped dancing (a part, of course, for his own pleasure like he did at AOI) and never attended dance classes since then. However, when he arrived in LA he was ready to face new challenges and quickly adjusted himself to follow Paul's & Jeri's new ideas for him. They decided to push him even more forward to highlight his artistic talent. And he immediately agreed, letting his body flow as a whole with the music. I know he practiced hard in LA and between first and second reharsal periods he had HYOEN2017... I still wonder how he managed to switch so quickly from one kind of art to another. | Pattina, thank you so, so much for keeping track of all the LOTF stuff and collecting the links here! The sheer mass on social media has been quite overwhelming. Major kudos to you and everyone, who shared their treasures with us!!! Shyla, you too, thank you for the video link! Everyone was so elated at the end of that last talk, they didn't even want to leave the stage! What a joy to see them all being this happy and proud of their achievements! Twind, you're a star! Domo arigatō for sharing that conversation (and the Katei Gaho article) with us! I find the opinions of non-fans to be very valuable, because - let's face it - a devoted fan will almost always be inclined to overlook or gloss over imperfections. I think the two ladies sitting next to your friend made an interesting point there with the turns. Dai's and also Charlie's choreos include quite a few turns/pirouettes and I think this was done very much on purpose, because for some reason many figure skaters are very good at them when they transition from the ice to the floor. They just seem to have the necessary core strength and excellent balance, which are required for "multi-revolutions". I don't quite understand why they seemed to think that making turns isn't dancing though? Just a guess, but maybe they thought it was too much and a little unconnected  (Or maybe I just misunderstood that part completely... ) However, it's great to hear that they and your friend were so deeply impressed with "Hometown Glory". Zelig's depiction is so eloquent and enigmatically intriguing. One can really visualize the dance from it. I can't wait to see the new rendition with the two additional dancers! What an achievement that Dai was able to perform on the same level as these two accomplished pros! Although Dai was already so, so wonderful last year, I guess Cheryl wasn't exaggerating when she gushed about Dai's improvements. - PATTINA wrote:

My gut feeling tells me he had to be convinced though. We know how shy and - as you say - modest Dai is in that regard, usually covering every inch of his skin with illusion mesh. (I know he didn't at AOI last time, though that could have been accidental. You could see he was wearing a black shirt underneath that was maybe just not long enough to stay put during his jumps and spins.) Whoever managed to convince him - good job! (Even Shae-Lynn didn't achieve this when she suggested Dai should skate "Lacrimosa" completely barechested.) Ok, in all seriousness: It really is a common stylistic device in dance. Like you, Pattina, I didn't take it to be sexy - it is more like stripping away all layers to expose your soul I guess. (I hope that doesn't sound too pretentious. ) It would have been out of place and kinda "provocative" for "Experimentation", but since "Hometown Glory" is rather introspective and personal, it's really more about being authentic/pure and vulnerable.
