Thank you for the news, Pattina.  I'm sure Tatsuki was thrilled to have Dai there so I'm very happy that his appearance was an added bonus to Tatsuki's well deserved, special day.

Thank you for the lovely update! Feb 24, the day Dai-chan paid a surprise visit to Rin-Spo rink to cheer Tatsuki and two other skaters moving on to a new stage was two days after he himself got a surprise party given by the younger skaters.

I feel that the individual on the other side of the lens looks attractive because there are efforts behind, that we can’t see, that he/she wouldn’t display. All the more a photograph that cuts out a moment should be a shot suitable to that person. In order to capture such “best moment” I have so much catch-up to do to sharpen my eyes, trying my best to make even one step closer to it.

Now the official HP of Daisuke Takahashi is open. http://d1sk.com When I had the privilege of taking his pictures I noticed his “eyes” were different on and off the ice. The way his reflecting on himself quietly and building up immeasurable efforts, and then his smiles away from the ice --- my hat goes off to him. I am very thankful to him and the staff.

Twind great translation. Tanaka is so perceptive about Dai-chan. Everyone that
meets Dai can't help becoming a fan. Dai is so much more than skating, although
he does that beautifully.

Any news on Kobe and who will be be in the show.

WTT will be coming up soon they have announced Team Japan. It will be strange with
no Dai, Mao or Akiko.  

Hanyu, Mura, Kanako, Satoko she won the Silver medal at Worlds,
the Reeds and a new Pair team as Takahashi/Kihara have split up.

Thanks Pattina for your hard work in getting the cast names. Nice to see Satoko and Rika in the cast they both did so well at Worlds. Hondo and Oda are always fun. I do not recognize the names
of the other cast members except for Sena. When I get home from work I will look
up their Bios.  Can't wait for the show.

Love the photos of 2013 WTT! I will watch because it is a fun time for all of the skaters even if our favorite won't be there. I really enjoy seeing all of the silly antics.

Satoko and Rika were added yesterday or the day before. And today another new entry: Kanako Murakami!!!!   and some one else (maybe Junior) who I do not understand

While we're waiting for the Kobe Chariy gala, which I am so eager to attend, I want to translate the part of the interview with Yuko Kawaguchi & Alexandr Smirnov where they both mentioned Daisuke.

-Are you in contact with Japanese skaters when you compete internationally?

-Yuko: Not really. Just hello greetings and congratulations to each other, but we don't really talk. We belong to different generations. It's a tradition in Japan to treat an older person as a senior, so they treat me like that. But I don't really feel my age yet, that's why I feel uncomfortable when they tream like that.

-Daisuke Takahashi explained the reason of finishing his career saying that younger skaters are winning, getting popular and he thought that fans were supporting him just because they were pitying him.

-Alexandr: No way I would ever believe that there is a more popular skater in Japan than Daisuke Takahashi. No one can skate like him, neither Hanyu nor anyone else. Even if some younger skaters jump better, it's sad that Daisuke gave up. Perhaps he felt that he wouldn't have power to go through one more season? But when such a thought enters your mind, tell it to go away. Otherwise, why to spend so many years of your life on figure skating?

-Yuko: But I understand Daisuke. It's a Japanese mentality. We don't really believe when someone starts praising us saying that we are the best. My coach, my mum always gave me someone else's work as an example. I admired everyone except my own self. But now I am changing.

We probably will not see the whole Marnie, as this event is not going to be broadcasted    Maybe some day on DVD...

After lunch with fans we went to Marien Beth to take some pics outside. But the master Chai-san saw us from the window and invited in. There were some fans inside and I am sure they were wandering in and out all day long, just like in some public museum (there's no entrance fee afterall, lol). Of course I took the pics of Dai's corner, his chair, jumped in it myself, etc. Btw, this month Marien Beth is moving to the buidling right next to the fancy department store Daimaru.

It's true that Dai's voice sounded odd, rather hoarse, with a stuffy nose. He also looked a little pale and acted less dorky than usual.  

The first half of the show Dai closed with Marnie. I wasn't sure till the very end if Marnie shows up due to its commercial copyright issues. But the miracle happened. When Dai entered the ice all in black, everyone understood everything and got shouting like crazy. The moment the first sound started singing, the crystal silent reigned, taking everyone to another world, fragile yet strong in its purity and sincerity. The artist on the ice. He had a step-out on 3F that no one noticed. That's too good to be just a commercial. It's a real gem for a show number like Luv Letter or Crisis.

In the second half Dai skated Kissing you. Very handsome, tender, intelligent, ready to burst in tears himself when the final note hit. It means he felt sad too, right? He bowed to everyone, including to the small back rink. In the finale he again did his airy 3F and closed the show with his beautiful spin.

Some other skaters.
Among Novice Shiroiwa kicked everything with 3F-3T, 2A-3Loop (so rare combo!), 3F, 3S, 3Loop, 3Z-2T-2T, 2A, she was quite speedy and cute.
Ladies. Kanako bomed SP, did 3T-3T in the finale though. Rika was perfectly clean in SP and got an ovation. Satoko skated EX cleanly but she was rather dull.
Men. Oda showed Riverdance, went for 3A but doubled. He did it in the finale.
Shoma went for 3A too, doubled at first but then did it. He looked much bigger live on the ice, not some kid anymore. Very musical and expressive. Did 4T in the finale, a tiny step-out didn't spoil the view.    

In the charity time I congratulated Rika with her victory at CoR. She is so terribly modest! I told Shoma that he'd grown up, he smiled and stroked his head. Kawaii)))
Surprisingly Dai looked very fresh in close-up and wonderfully suntanned. I didin' expect to see him like that and asked if he'd took a holiday in Hawaii. He laughed like his usual self and said no. My final word was sabishii (lonely) to him because that is how his fans are going to feel from now on, at least myself. Dai bowed, bowed, bowed...

PS. One person who knows stuff told me that Dai for sure will be in FrOI this August. As you know, he has a commercial event scheduled the same month, so he'll be back to Japan and will take part in shows too. At the same time openly to public Dai didn't confirm anything. So,....

So happy Dai could skate to Marnie and give it as a present to his lovely fans. And Kissing, always so moving. He really wanted to grab the hearts of his devoted Oba-chan and take them with him in the USA.

Hi Pattina usually no fan videos because of t.v. broadcast rights. I thought since the show will not
be broadcast they would relax the rule and let us poor Dai fans at least see something.
