I'm voting for more of the Miyamoto choreography - IMHO (which I'm sure is well known to many of you here at the DTFF), Bachelorette is by far the best thing Daisuke has ever done - the choreography is intricate, intense, stunning, sexy and yes, 'dark' - and it TOTALLY suits Daisuke's style. Interestingly, I also think Nocturne also suited Dai's personal style very well. Having said that, we all know Dai can do a range of styles very well, but I think the continuous thread underlying all of his most successful pieces is a dark intensity, so a choreographer who can tap into and show off that would be very good for Dai. On another positive note, I think its GREAT that Dai is taking more and more of the decisions about his skating future himself - there's nothing like being in control of your own destiny to make you mentally and emotionally stronger. And with Nagamitsu by his side, as always, to give him the personal support he needs, I'm feeling very positive about the next stage of Daisuke's career.

on the other hand, another disturbing information : Brian Joubert was supposed until the Worlds 2008 to travel to Canada for working his next programs with Kurt Browning, and Kurt had new ideas for Brian ...
It seems, refering to an article in a French newspaper, that Kurt is overbooked and needs more time for his family (he has 2 children)...so Brian will take Platov as his choregrapher for the coming season
what do all these changes mean?

I totally agree. For me Bachelorette and Nocturne are the best Daisuke's programmes. I would like to see him skating competitive programmes in that style.

This has been an off season of change...and it's only May!!!! Shocked

nipponophile, I don't know if Miyamoto has done competitive choreography. Dai is going to need someone who knows COP, especially with all the rule changes that have occurred. Even so, Miyamoto could possibly lay down a foundation (picking music, the transitions, etc) but leave the tech to a coach.

It's possible that Dai could be looking for someone who's a coach and a choreographer. Now that Platov is choreographing for Brian, Dai might not go to him. Who else is both a coach and a choreographer (and has worked with men)?

Oh, I'm bit disappointed Sad because I have been interested in Platov since I found his name as Dai-chan's new coach in someone's post in GS or FSU.

I don't think Kenji has done competitive choreography before. He choreographed a lot of programs of Japanese skater's EX recently like Yukari, Nobu, Nanri and Nakaniwa.
But I think the idea itself that Dai-chan and Kenji work together is nice. Kenji will be able to spare much more time for Dai-chan than other famous choreographers. So they will be able to create something which Dai-chan really wants to perform and express Dai-chan's original artistry. Anyway they will need help from COP specialist, maybe his new coach or Utako or Takeshi Honda. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

BTW I'm really glad to hear a lot of foreign figure skate fans like Kenji's choreograph!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Tarasova used to be like that. But the last time she did a full-time coach/choreographer thing, was in 2002 with Yagudin, which took place in the pre-CoP era. And even then Morozov and a sport psychologist assisted her. I can't think of another example, at least not in the men's division. Looks like Nikolai is unique in that regard.

I find Mr. Miyamoto's work interesting and intriguing. I think it's a good idea to invite him to create the choreo. But yes, CoP specialists would have to check the programs content.

I agree that Tarasova did some great men's choreography, but I found her efforts for Daisuke less than stellar the first time around...
Mr Miyamoto's effort with the Björk exhibition really impressed me, so perhaps he and someone COP-savvy could come up with something unique! Very Happy
Grishuk/Platov are my all-time favourite dance team, so I have obviously great respect for Mr Platov as a skater but must admit that I thought the choreography I have seen from him until now wasn't really all that spectacular. Embarassed
And of course the usual suspects: Wilson and Nichol! Twisted Evil

Hi, DTFF members!
I made a new topic from "Daisuke has split with Morozov."

Who is Daisuke's coach and choreographer next season?
And we are expecting who is qualified person for Daisuke except his long-time coach Utako Nagamitsu.
Recently, Daisuke said "We are now processing with new programs. Everyone, don't worry about it!" Very Happy

I love Zhulin as a dancer and choregrapher. Could be very interesting for him to buid up a choregraphy for Daisuke

and why not Daisuke himself?

Oh really?? Shocked So it must be Kenji Miyamoto because he hasn't met anyone else.
Now he met David Wilson at Festa on Ice in Korea. Utako went there along with him. So I guess they might had a meeting with Wilson there. Rolling Eyes
I love to see Kurt's or Platov's program for him but it would be unlikely in the current circumstances. bounce

Yah, I really want to see another program choreographed by himself. But it would be bit difficult for him to make a competion program, I think. Neutral

I agree Smile I also want to see the program Daisuke and Kenji Miyamoto choreograph together with a help from a specialist for CoP.
But maybe it's still going to be difficult for the competition.... scratch?

Yes, Brian is going to work with Evgeny Platov (for the 2nd time in his career), because Brian's former choreographer, Kurt Browning, suddenly remembered that he was going to be very busy in the months to come, and wouldn’t, therefore, be able to work with Brian.

I don't know how Daisuke feels about sharing choreographers with his competition.

My personal preference at this point would be Mr. Miyamoto.

Thank you for the information, hsuhs Smile
So, it seems unlikely for Daisuke to have Platov as a coach, or as a choreographer alone.

hsuhs wrote:

I don't know neither if Daisuke would feel comfortable sharing his choreographer with Brian, but as long as he hopes to work with world-widely famous
choreographer like Wilson or Dickson, Lori Nichol, it's neceessary for him to share him or her with some top skaters anyway.
I only wish Daisuke could find a choreographer who meets his conditions.

And, I agree Mr. Miyamoto could be the one for choices, because from what I read on the interview of Daisuke and Mr. Miyamoto in Japanese magazine,
they are so intimate and Mr. Miyamoto knows Daisuke thoroughly. So it leads their work to be rather stressless.
But what I worry most is Mr. Miiyamoto is an unknown choreographer at international level. Is it likely that the fact would effect PCS or something in bad ways scratch ?

Yes, choreo sharing may seem inevitable, although there was no repeating among men's top 10 this past worlds:

Yshion wrote:

I worry about that too. But there are instances of success with less known choreographers (Kevin van der Perren, Johnny Weir, Sergei Voronov). PCS is a dark horse anyway, is very subjective. Daisuke lost 2007 GPF's gold due to PCS, while working with Morozov.
BTW, it's nice to learn that Daisuke and Miyamoto-san are on friendly terms.

miyu wrote:

But... who, miyu? Smile Seems like we've run out of options here. All famous choreographers are either taken or unavailable, except maybe for Dickson.

Hi everyone! Very Happy
Did you think I found a news about Dai-chan's choreographer?? Sorry I didn't. Razz Razz It seemed many of you are interested in Kenji Miyamoto so I translated the interview in which Kenji talked about his choreography for Dai-chan and some parts of the talk interview of Dai-chan and Kenji. Enjoy!! alien alien

And
Happy Birthday, swandie!! flower flower
I hope you are having a wonderful day today!!

From the interview of Kenji Miyamoto in "Men's Figure Skate 2007-2008 Memorial Book"

Takahashi-shenshu's EX "Bachelorette" was created after he told me that he wanted to skate something he's never done before. I think that was a good answer for his request. If I create another.... I wonder. He's alreday done Hip Hop, hasn't he? OK, something ethinic! Middle Eastern style or Hawaiian style wearing a costume made of straw, not clothes! I wanted him to do such music when I saw his dance this year. I don't know whether it will suit for him or not, though. (laugh)
At first, his superbness is his skating which slides well on ice. Normally one gets good speed after 3 kicks but he can get it with 1 kick. He can also switch over from high speed to low speed very naturally and quickly. These are very difficult things to do.
And one more thing, he always gives attention to the end of his fingers during performances. It's not obvious like floor dancers but he cares everything from head to toe.
Furthermore, he can do these things throughout a program, switching speed and concentrating on every small movement.
.....
Oh, I forget about it. There is one thing I really want to do with him. That's a program without music. No music, no rhythm nor no clap of audience. I want him him to skate in silence. But it would be difficult to do in a short time. Because we made "Bachelorette" so as to prevent people from clapping to it. So next one should not be a "no-clapping" program.

From the talk interview of Dai-chan and Kenji in "Figure Skate Days No.3"
("Figure Skate Days No.3" was published after 2007 Worlds. I picked some parts of it, where you can see they are really good mates for long time. Whole of the interview is really funny!!)

........
D: I want to live alone. But whmmmm, it's not much fun, is it?
K: Lonely. But I have never lived alone.
D: What? (Laugh)
K: I was alone in France.
D: It must have been hard. I felt lonely when I was alone in US.
K: That made me go crazy. Actually I was crazy.
D: There were nothing to do.
K: At that time I was in mad living alone in France and Dai-chan was having difficult time too.
D: I was in mad too.
K: It was OK for me because I had a PC. But Dai-chan sent me emails which appeared in about 10 lines on my PC from your mobile phone.
D: We were sick.
K: We spent 5 or 6 hours to email, didn't we.
D: That was crazy. We have come all the way here though.(Laugh)
K: You have become really tough recently.
.....

K: You cry too often. (Laugh) I've often seen Dai-chan crying.
D: It's only Kenji-kun.
K: Really?
D: Other people around me don't know I cry.
....

K: Dai-chan is a great skater who appears in TV CM. But after competitions you come along with me and you are adorable. I've never said so in front of your face.
D: But when I perform poorly, I'm really pissed off.
K: That's true. Why on earth do you take out frustration on me?(Laugh)
D: I always feel sorry for it.(Laugh)
K: But you consult with me straightforward and honestly. Then I want to answer you as much as I can.
D: I'm embarrassed. When I consult with Kenji-kun you answer me seriously at the end even though you sometimes try to get funny.
K: You embarrassed me. I will support you as both of an adorable Dai-chan and a great skater from now on.
D: You, too! Pleas become not only Japanese famous choreograher but also a worldwide famous choreograher.
K: Please don't forget me then.
D: Ofcourse. I'm
serious.

Hi, miyu Very Happy

Thank you for such wonderful translations for foreign DTFF members I love you I love you
I love those interviews so much, so enjoyable to read. Thank you for taking your time to translate, miyu-san Smile

miyu wrote:

Yes, actually I thought you found some confidential matters Cool about Daisuke's choreography next season Laughing
I know I have to wait patiently about this, but sometimes get to think "Oh, is it really going to be alright?"

And Miyamoto-san! Everytime I read his interviews about Daisuke, I find him such a talented, sensible, and tender person.
Besides, Daisuke and Miyamoto-san look quite intimate and trust each other, and recognize their abilities each other so much.
I guess Daisuke can behave just the way he is in front of him.

I've read somewhere that Miyamoto-san used to be a single skater and switched to ice-dancer later. Probably I read, he has full knowledge of
the right timing of jumps and transitions for single skater's choreography... I forgot where I read that... do you have any idea for this, miyu?

I hope he will choreograph at least Daisuke's EX, if SP&FS choreography would not be considered suitable for his young career...
But, please NO "Hawaiian style wearing a costume made of straw, not clothes", please! Laughing

And, Happy Birthday, swandie! ! I hope you enjoy this day Very Happy Very Happy

Thank you so much, miyu! Very Happy

I don't know Miyamoto-san at all, only few choreographies like Bachelorette and I love them... In this interview he really seems to appreciate Daisuke's style and they appear in good relationship, so it could be good for them to work together...
As I've just said I don't know much about Miyamoto-san, so I can't express if he can choreograph SP or FP for Daisuke, but I'd like to see them working together again... maybe for this "program with non music"... Daisuke skating in silence... it can be really intense... Rolling Eyes

Dai and Miyamoto talk like best friends in their joint interview. It's good they had each other to talk to when they were lonely in foreign countries.
