When I watched it, I screamed in fron of TV "No, wait! Daisuke! It's too early to run at full speed, isn't it?" Wow, the speed of his recovery seems tremendous, almost unbelievable to me. - miyu wrote:
- BTW Yshion, I haven't bought "Passion 2009" yet. Is it interesting? Worth to buy??
Well...it's a very difficult question, miyu If you feel comfortable for paying only for Daisuke's part, sure, it's worth buying! I also enjoyed Takahiko's talk with Yukari-chan, it was really funny! Evan's interview was interesting, too. But, no particularly new interviews, informations, photos of Johnny, Brian, Stephane, Jeffrey, Tomas...I expected more interviews, especially from Brian.

Ok, OK I realize that TV stations have people who write texts for them. I bet those text writers didn't think for a second that their work was going to be translated into English and different people from around the world would watch the translated video. I only had a very short panic attack over that It's over by now. - miyu wrote:

This of course might put additional pressure on Daisuke, as he hasn't even started on-ice training yet. But lucky tickets holders!

- In addtion, there was a small news about Dai-chan on 19th.
Referring to Dai-chan, Mr. Hidehito Ito, JSF Figure Skating Manager, said that JSF would like to send him to a small international competition early next season in order that he could get back the feeling of competition.
Nebelhorn?? Finlandia?? Merano?? It will depend on his condition at that time, though. If he ends up going to a competition not to far away from me I'll be there, without a doubt. I am not about to lose any chances I get to see him. Speaking of competitions. He'll end up with just one GP assignment, just like Oda did this year, right? The I really hope he does go to a competition here in Europe. Assuming his GP assignment will be NHK Trophy I can't go. And I probably can't afford WC in Torino either, if he gets to go there. Then again, it's way to early to start these kind of discussions. Thanks for the vid and the trans.

| Actually, alekzu, Daisuke might still be able to get 2 GPs. Being #1 in the world at the end of last season helps him out a lot here. Right now, he's #3 and with only worlds left, it's highly unlikely that he'll drop out of the top 24. He probably won't even drop out of the top 15. Being in the top 24 guarantees him one event. Nobunari was 28th at the end of last season so the only way he could get a GP was through host invite. Daisuke will probably get a host invite to NHK which would give him 2 assignments total. Of course, a lot will depend on his condition. | |

It will be really nice that we have someone from DTFF at his first competition next season!!! - swandie wrote:

Yeah, you are right. Well, I've read an article in Dec that JSF was working for a change in the rule, something like skaters who have won top 6(? not sure) placements at Worlds in their career before can get 2 GP assignments and JSF already got positive answers from some countries. Anyway I can't find the article now so it might have been kind of an unreliable news. And I have no idea if it's good or not...

Is that so. Interesting. And good for him. So if I'm really really lucky he might get to go to TEB, which isn't to unlikely for me to be able to go see. Nice. Next season is going to be fun.

| The real question is whether the ISU takes into account the World Standings BEFORE or AFTER they "enter" the 2009/2010 season. Because after they do so, Dai will likely get out of the top 24 (he will have only one season counting for 70%, against skaters with one full season and one season counting for 70%). If I recall correctly, last summer they used the "new" Standings when they assigned the GP events, which is why Oda couldn't get a 2nd GP. - miyu wrote:

Anyway I can't find the article now so it might have been kind of an unreliable news. And I have no idea if it's good or not.. I heard about that too, but I think it was "only" for previous World Medalists? In any case, I think it would be good and the ISU has all reasons to support it. If skaters like Sasha Cohen or Plushenko want to come back, they could get 2 events instead of just one. And if someone who's not from a GP country comes back (like Stéphane Lambiel), they could get 2 events instead of NONE. Between, I'm NOT saying that any of these 3 skaters will come back, it's just examples based on some "rumors" going around. I will only believe in any comeback when I see it... I guess we just have to wait and see, and in the meantime hope that Daisuke's recovery will continue to go well!

Oh yea! I think you're right. Nobu was still in the top 24 before they purged 2005-2006. Dai will probably end up just outside the top 24 when they do the 2006-2007 purge so he would only get NHK. I totally didn't think about that.

| Just out of curiosity, I calculated ISU points, 07-08*70% +08-09*100%, based on the current ISU standings. Dai-chan is placed at 19th. The skaters written in in bold letters are ones who are goint to Worlds and currently ranked below Dai-chan. So if these skaters show good performances there, they have possibility to surpass him in the rankings. Rank Name 1 Tomas VERNER 3146 2 Patrick CHAN 2774 3 Evan LYSACEK 2586 4 Brian JOUBERT 2568 5 Kevin VAN DER PERREN 2562 6 Takahiko KOZUKA 2519 7 Jeremy ABBOTT 2475 8 Johnny WEIR 2377 9 Yannick PONSERO 2371 10 Adam RIPPON 2264 11 Michal BREZINA 2123 12 Alban PREAUBERT 2062 13 Brandon MROZ 1795 14 Sergei VORONOV 1713 15 Nobunari ODA 1512 16 Stephen CARRIERE 1456 17 Denis TEN 1439 18 Florent AMODIO 1416 19 Daisuke TAKAHASHI 1397 20 Samuel CONTESTI 1364 21 Stephane LAMBIEL 1363 22 Kevin REYNOLDS 1321 23 Ivan BARIEV 1309 24 Armin MAHBANOOZADEH 1305 25 Adrian SCHULTHEISS 1302 26 Artem BORODULIN 1297 27 Yasuharu NANRI 1272 28 Jeffrey BUTTLE 1271 29 Kristoffer BERNTSSON 1271 30 Vaughn CHIPEUR 1254 31 Chao YANG 1167 32 Jeremy TEN 1125 33 Jialiang WU 980 34 Curran OI 962 35 Shawn SAWYER 927 36 Ryan BRADLEY 922 37 Kensuke NAKANIWA 882 38 Andrei LUTAI 877 39 Takahito MURA 871 40 Jinlin GUAN 856 41 Sergei DAVYDOV 634 42 Gregor URBAS 624And here is WC points. 1 1200 2 1080 3 972 4 875 5 787 6 709 7 638 8 574 9 517 10 465 11 418 12 377 13 339 14 305 15 275 16 247 17 222 18 200 19 180 20 162 21 146 22 131 23 118 24 106 ISU counts only higher points between Euro/4CC and WC for skater's rankings. So these bold letter guys (except Mura who didn't go to 4CC) will have to get more points at coming WC than they did at Euro/4CC in order to surpass Dai-chan. (Right??? ) These are their points without Euro/4CC. It means he has to finish in the top 4 at Worlds. CONTESTI 608 -> 790 -> top 4 SCHULTHEISS 1162 -> 235 -> top 16 BERNTSSON 869 -> 528 -> top 8 CHIPEUR 758 -> 639 -> top 6 Jeremy TEN 679 -> 719 -> top 5 WU 655 -> 743 -> top 5 LUTAI 431 -> 967 -> top 3 MURA 871 -> 526 -> top 8 URBAS 522 -> 875 -> top 4 Is my theory and calculation correct??? I'm sorry if there are mistakes... Please understand, I don't mean I hope someone fails.... I really hope everyone can bring out their ability and show a satifying performance at Worlds. | |

| Wow miyu. You've put some effort in to that. My conclusion based oo those numbers are: Dai might still have a chance ta top 24 after Worlds. I don't think it probable that even half of those guys get the needed points. | |

| Thanks, miyu. That had to have taken tons of time. Based on your numbers, 6 guys would have to get ahead of Daisuke to knock him out of the top 24 and for nearly all of them, the necessary points are all but an impossibility even with good performances. Of course, there could be surprises but based on the depth of the field, I don't see Daisuke falling out of the top 24 based on those calculations. - miyu wrote:

| No no, actually Excel did all the calculations for me. So it didn't take me much time. As alekzu and swandie said, Dai-chan would likely remain in the top 24 according to my calculation. In fact I didn't expected it. Is my way of calculation correct? I'm still a bit suspicious about it. | |

| Thank you miyu! Good news for Daisuke. Of course we have to wait to know something more about his condition... but if everything goes well, there will be two GP event for him. Great! I don't know if the World Team Trophy gives some points for the world standings... but I don't think so... it will be strange, because only few skaters can partecipate... | |

| The World Team Trophy points don't count. Dai should be safe for 2 GP events if he's up for it. I know he won't be at SA (it's the week after NHK) but if he ends up at SC, I will definitely be going!
I'm beginning to wonder if this lost season will compel Dai to stay another year after Vancouver. Worlds is in Japan in 2011 so there might be that incentive as well. I'm sort of dreading next year because of the large amount of retirements that will likely come down after Vancouver.
