I tranlated this Dai-chan's interview after LP into English. I hope you enjoy it!!
http://sportsnavi.yahoo.co.jp/other/headlines/skate/20071202-00000019-spnavi-spo.html(Sorry for my imperfect English. But it was good English practice for me!! Until when Dai-chan win at Vancouver my English will improve like his quads. hahaha
)
--You won second consecutive championship at NHK Trophy.
I'm happy wining second consecutive championship but the content wasn't as good as the previous time. I fell on the quad and also I couldn't do 2 quads. Regrettable result. I wanted to grab the victory. I thought such kind of feeling was neccessary for me. It's not satisfactory win in content. Tomas succeeded a clean quad even though he also made mistake. I feel chagrined. (You placed second with small margin after SP?) I didn't care that smll margin. I tried to do just what I have done so far.
--How did you spend time after morning practice?
I returned, had lunch, set may hair and came back here. I didn't have much time so I had lunch and took a nap in a hurry. I ate "katayakisoba" at a restaurant because I like food with sticky sauce. (????)
--Yesterday Miki Ando was so nervous that she failed in the ladies competition. How did you concentrate on the game?
Actually I felt nervous seeing Miki Ando but I have had such experience many times. I believed what have I practiced and I skated trying to do what I could do, not any more than it.
--You did only one quad.
Quad jumps requires me concentration and I lose physical strength when I fail. There are some skater who are better at quad than 3A. But I can't if I am asked to do it at the beginning the morning proctice. I can do it when I'm in good condition. I'm still not a good quad jumper. It is necessary for me to practice more and jump a lot of quads. I feel it is difficult even now.
After SP I talked with Morozov. There are still 3 important competition after this.(GPF, Japan National, World) Considering my physical strength I wonder I should try it here or not. And also I considersed that my quad was bit off comparing with it in peak which came too earlier. I was in the best condition the day before SP. I'd like to adjust it well for the future.
I didn't worry at all about yesterday's fall on 3A. I felt good in the 6 minutes practice. Personally I wanted to do 2 quads but Nicolai said to me "One quad today." while he saw my morning practice. I think he thought going to GPF was more important. It would be just reckless thing to do it without enough preparation. I was ready but also still anxious. I decided to do what he told me because he had more experiences of games than me, I wanted to go to GPF and I placed second in SP.
--I think 3F instead of a quad made you possible to do one more combination jump.
I knew I had to add one more combination jump. I was intending to do it at the last lutz. But I felt "No. it's better not to add combo." when I landed so I stopped doing it.
--What are the tasks ahead of you? How will you improve your steps?
I got 81 points in TES even with a fall on 4T. It might be because it is here in Japan though. I'm sure now I will be able to get more points if I skate clean. But to do 2 quads I have to become more successful in practice. One of spins was Level 2 again. Because of the lack of physical strength it was judged as underrotaion. I have a problem in steps too that I can't move my body widely due to the lack of strength. This time I was more tired than Skate America. I tried best to move my legs in step when I heard the cheer from the audience. It is difficult for me to skate more in practice because competitions will be held continuously. I will have to adjust to get more physical strength.
-- You said "I become able to put my performance into shape." on TV interview.
Did I say such thing? (laugh) Though I made big mistakes, but two at a maximam. I become not to make 3 or 4 mistakes at a time. It might not be actully "put my performance into shape" but I think I don't ruin my performance recently comparing with before when I was really bad. I didn't expected the fall on quad but I could switch my mind immediately.
--About Japan National Championships.
Japan National Championships is very important game to get a ticket to World Championships. At this game Oda will come back so I will have to be attentive. I'd like to try my best to win every game. (Is Oda special for you?) No it is not like special but I concern about to what content he has worked out.
