| Have a fun, Genki!! Looking forward to seeing your report. Me, neither, swandie. I'm really sad that I can't go to see Daisuke in US, but I'm sure that he will show us powerful programs more than NHK Trophy. Can't wait to see it!! | |

| Thanks, guys:
I saw official practice just off the ice rink yesterday. Not too many spectators.
First thing, his hair looked gorgeous with out any hair product!!!
He fell in the strange place once and smiled to hide his embarrassment. Sorry, I do not remember exactly where. He was practicing long, and I noticed another minor change in his arm pattern in the last straight line step.
I am off to the official practice again this afternoon.!!!
Talk to you soon. | |

| Dai may not have won the short but he certainly won the crowd. Watching him made me sad that I couldn't be there live. Nobunari was clean and therefore won the short. It's close between these two and tomorrow (really today because I'm on the east coast) will be a battle! | |

| Many thanks for linking vids, panther. OMG!! Sorry about his jumps, but Daisuke's PCS was very high more than I thought. I was really concerned about his legs after his stumbled on 3A, but he seemed to be O.K. Nobunari did good performance. Can't wait to see FS until tomorrow!! According to his interview After the short program, Daisuke said "I got only a level one for a spin, and this is a problem for me. I worked hard on my spins before this competition and I'm disappointed that I couldn't show it in competition and also couldn't get a rhythm in my program. Because I was so nervous after I missed two jumps. But I want to try it hard more and more." Go for it, Daisuke!! | |

| Hey everyone! I'm in Portland right now too. I watched the men's LP practice earlier today, and Daisuke was having major problems with the 3A and the quad. The 3A problems were a continuation of yesterday, when he was also not landing them with his usual consistency. For the quad, most of his 4T attempts were underrotated -- he had a really bad fall on one attempt in particular. Later on he did land one 4T, but he stepped out of it. Towards the end of the practice, he started attempting the 4F. I think he did two? They were both two-footed, but they looked better than the 4T. So I wonder if he's planning to try the 4F instead of the 4T tonight. Oda was really on for the most part. He landed a 4-3-3. Based on the practices, I wouldn't be surprised if Oda wins. | |

| Two hours...my heart is beating so hard. Hey, Calliope, you are in Portland! Thank you for your report. I heard that he's having a trouble with 3A. He missed 4T in the practice at NHK trophy, but he jumped it completely in the competition. I hope he do it again. I don't think he's planning to try 4F this time. Yesterday at his interview, Daisuke said "I definitely want to be a champion of GP final this time." I'm just crossing my fingers for Daisuke!! | |

| Congratulations to Daisuke. He won witn +1 Oda on second place. I feel sorry for Nobunari. He skated more clean & he was really upset about scores. May be he deserved gold, but everything is possible with this system.
I want to say to Daisuke "Please, believe in yorself, don`t be nervous". He`s king of magic indeed.

| Congratulation, Daisuke!! His condition was not so good, but he did the best he could at the time. I think that Daisuke does not satisfied with his performance for this competition. I hope to see his perfect performance at GP final. I'm sorry about Nobunari, he did a mistake for counting combination jumps and lost about 10 points. But I'm really glad to see two Japanese men are on the podium. | Yep, Nobunari did too many combinations. He would have won Skate Canada if he had done the 3 jump combo and I think he was thinking about that here. Nobu is kicking himself hard after this! Even with that mistake, he did beat Dai technically.
Dai's jumps were very off but he was on his game as far as the expression goes. That 85.00 for program components says a lot! Hopefully, he can get himself back in good condition for the Final.

Nobonari was funny, he didn't notice his 3 jump combo after his free skating. He said to himself "Oh, my good. I fell on 4T." He lost a chance to win several times because of the same mistake. - swandie wrote:

I agree with you, swandie. That 85.00 point of PCS is very high. Daisuke was surprised and said "Oh, my.. 85 point...". I love his free skating program!! I don't know why this, but I feel that this program makes me imagine "Lost Love" story. Interview after the competitionDaisuke: I feel so better than before and I'm trying to keep a good shape. I've been really working so hard to practice some spins, but I couldn't show it in the competition. And also I'll try to work steps so hard for getting more GOE points. Nobunari: I have a lot of regrects about the competition. How many times did I do the same mistakes? I don't know what I say. As I was just thinking of next jumps, I didn't notice that. Daisuke didn't have any comments about his jumps, so he's not worrying about them?? He seemes to be care about only spins and steps. His layback spins were turned uplight spins according to his score. Nobunari, cheer up!!

| Hi again everyone! Tonight's competition wasn't that great overall, but I'm glad that Daisuke still managed to win. His warm-up wasn't very good; he doubled/stepped out of a salchow and then a flip or lutz as well, and didn't land a quad. So based on that and his practices, I had a feeling he wasn't going to skate that well. And what do you know, problems on the quad and 3A. Despite the jump issues though, he sold the program like crazy, so I don't think he was overscored in PCS. The step sequences were absolutely fabulous. After Daisuke's skate, I thought Nobunari had the gold in the bag, since he had landed a 4-3-3 in the six minute warm-up and several quads in the earlier practice. But he fell on the quad, and I think that might have shaken him, since it seemed to affect the rest of his jumps. After he did the second solo 3A, I was like "Oh no, he's going to do four combos again if he's not careful" and what do you know, he did. Sigh. He's done this so many times, I don't know when he's ever going to learn. For me, the highlight performance was by Armin. He was awesome!! His performance was the only one to get almost a full standing ovation. I liked him since I first saw him last year, so I'm thrilled he managed to win a medal here. Daisuke Murakami skated very well, too. He was so happy with his performance, he was smiling like crazy the whole time and afterwards too. I'm really glad he's doing well this year after his disastrous placement at Nationals last year. (Maybe leaving Morozov has done him good too? ) After the medal ceremony, the skaters stuck around for a long time to sign autographs. I got Daisuke's, but not Nobunari's or Armin's. Will try again tomorrow! | |

| Win is a win. Luck is a part of the game. Very happy for Dai I was so afraid to check back on the final result at this forum but finally did. Hope he can better condition for the GPF title he wants it badly. The quality of the ice there wasn’t very good at all, I heard, due to basketball court turned into the link temporarily for this game. That explains why many skaters had troubles... And for Dai, he seems to be dealing with the springs in his legs now that they are back. Still better than last year’s struggle to build up all the jumps from scratch. You’ve got time, prepare well, Dai. Go, Dai, go!! | |

| Hi Guys:
I am about to leave Portland. After reading such excellent reports from everybody, I do not have too much to write.
One thing is that Daisuke explained his jumping condition as adjusting to the new power of his spring. I thought it is fabulous. He maybe able to do 2 quads easy again in one program.
I also thought that the funniest comment from the universal sports is by Andrea Joice.
" He is shamelessly flirting with judges." Yeas, Dai "a big flirt-er!!"
Talk to you soon!! | |
