| Thanks for results and links, anne-marie! WOW! Lysacek, Weir and Kozuka had great scores! We have to wait the FP, because we have less only 1,20 points from first to third! I watched the programs, but I did't understand Lysacek's deduction... he didn't fall... can someone explain it? Evan's steps lookvery difficult, but I don't like very much the way he moves his arms... Johnny's programs is very elegant, but there's nothing new... except the last spins with laybach spin! Congratulations to Takahiko! I hope he can keep the place also after FP! He was so happy when he saw the result! | |

glorydave, here's a quote from an article posted on icenetwork: "The only fluky bit was a one-point deduction for only waiting three seconds at the beginning of his program instead of four to begin his choreography, causing his program to run over the 2:50-second limit". http://web.icenetwork.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20081025&content_id=53985&vkey=ice_news - Quote :

| I think the 3 men that are at the top now will definitely be the podium. It's just a question of what order. Either way, I think that this will be a great competition for Takahiko. Unless he has a complete and utter meltdown, he'll be on the podium. I honestly think he has a shot at winning but a medal of any color would be so wonderful. He's beginning to assert himself as a potential contender.
I liked Takahiko's program the best out of all the men. Evan and Johnny were just ok to me. Johnny is doing this new catchfoot layback and it doesn't look all that great. A non-catchfoot layback would look so much better. Evan's program isn't all that bad despite Bolero being a kind of annoying piece of music. His skating is a bit smoother than before though.
Notice that Evan has abandoned the quad-triple in the short. With the new negative GOEs, that's a smart move. A lot of the men were hit hard by the new -GOEs on the triple axel so the scores look lower than I'm used to seeing for a men's competition.

swandie, Tarasova said during the broadcast that she'd advised Evan to do so in the beginning of GP. According to her, he'll add a quad to the SP later in the season, 'because he's a fighter, he just has to'. She's very fond of her new pupil.

| I'm so excited for Takahiko! It was unbelievable! I thought Evan had him but another jump in addition to the quad must have been downgraded. It's the fourth year in a row that a Japanese man has won Skate America!
If he medals at his next event, he'll be on his way to the final. Evan has to win Skate Canada or his chances of going to the final go down. Johnny should be fine unless he ends up 3rd at NHK then it might come down to a tie breaker.

| Thank you for all the informaiton!! Congratulations to Takahiko, Yu-na and other medalists!! I was really surprised and glad to see Takahiko's big improvement in capturing the music (especially in SP) as well as his win. He wasn't good at expressing the music before even though he had a great skating skill. I think he still needs to improve his upper body movements (especially arms). Considering it was just the beginning of the season Evan and Johnny were good. Johnny was very Johnny as always. I liked his costumes. Evan's new choreographys looked a bit monotone to me, especially Bolero. It might be a stereotyped interpretation of the music but Bolero should start calm and rise in crescendo toward its climax. Of course he will improve. Anyway his costumes were spectacular!! Kevin Reynolds made a great improvement!! I read TT choreographed his programs. So it's something called "Tarasova magic"?! Yu-na was gorgeous. At this moment I prefer her SP to FP. I really liked Yukari's Giselle. Miki looked in good shape compared with last year though she finished third. I haven't seen other girls performances yet! | |

| While I was watching Takahiko skating his SP and LP, I thought: "Who does he remind me of?" And, surprisingly, the answer was - nobody. I think (and I hope) he's on his way of turning into an interesting and unique skater.
I'm happy for Miki and her bronze: she skated the best she could, and she was very concentrated during the LP. I'm sure she will improve as the season develops.
