| http://hochi.yomiuri.co.jp/sports/winter/news/20100423-OHT1T00023.htmDai-chan has already started to select music for new programs and said " Jazz is the most probable choice." Well, I'm totally unfamiliar with jazz….. I only know some hugely famous jazz music, such as "Moonlight Serenade", "Summer time" or "Take the A train". Is " Unforgettable" a piece of jazz music?? Then it's fine for Dai-chan. Anyway, if there is anyone who love jazz here, please tell me some nice jazz music for Dai-chan. Even I don't know jazz music, I'm enjoying imagining his new music recently, as always in this time of the year. I guess, everyone here is doing the same kind of thing. So, let's share our choices here!! I'm iterested in other members' choices very much. I'll go first! BTW, these are the musics which Dai-chan once mentioned as the music he wanted to skate to. (Is there anything other than these?? ) Diva Dance from the film "Fifth Element"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQEDhQnxZxIAdagio by Albinonihttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mz4dpbk8YBs--------------------------------------- Here are my choices! Rachmaninov: Symphony No.2 Mvt.3https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbZYzoidkYUI love this heavenly beautiful piece of music but I used to think it was difficult to skate. But after I saw V/M Mahler FD (Fantastic!!), I really want Dai-chan to skate to this. I think he can do! Ravel: Tziganehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dj21PCQ-nzQIs it a bit similar to "eye"? Because it has Latin taste. Bach: Chaconnehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bVRTtcWmXIFalla: Ritual Fire Dancehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5vHUODzcJ8Again, Latin taste. Mascagni: Cavalleria rusticana https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xvdig4N0bpkToo feminine? Jeff Beck: So Whathttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbYXWtTmtRwThis would remind you of Takahiko's SP, though. Peter Gabriel: The Feeling Beginshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTAaKAVpOOMThis would remind you of Michel Kwan, though. For EX. I have tons of idea for EX as a rock music fan. I love Oasis but I can't imagine Dai-chan skating to their songs…… So I choose these.Maybe better than Oasis to skate. Muse: Super Massive Black Holehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xsp3_a-PMTwRadiohead: Idiotequehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21Zd8xPUQs8"Jigsaw Faling Into Place" is also nice. The Music: Take The Long Road And Walk ithttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ospxlZZM2HwUnderworld: Push Upstairshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nRNoXT_gUc"Cowgirl" and "Jumbo" are nice too. U2: Get on Your Bootshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcDNilZbZg8Tahiti80: Soul Deephttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9ge0KMnb0wVery cute. Of course, "1000 times" is very nice, too. The Chemical Brothers: The Salmon Dancehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LyHakCQN0SsA comical song. "Come inside", "Let forever be", "Saturate" and "Setting Sun" are also nice. Ohhhh, I'm already doing this for 2 hours and have to stop now!!! I'm looking forward to reading other members' choices!! Thank you! | |

| I'd so lo~ove him to skate Supermassive Black Hole ^^ The piece from the Fifth Element is nice, too, but I can't actually imagine him skating this...yet ('yet' is for that I couldn't imagine him skating La Strada back in 2008 either *lol*). I personally would love if he took smth of Yoshida Brothers )) | |

| Thank you for telling about the jazz, miyu! As for selecting music for Daisuke's new programs, it is not easy. I think I need more time, and I'm not even sure I can come up with anything at all. Both Daisuke's last season's programs were _entertaining_ in nature. And it seems people love to be entertained. Daisuke's Cyber Swan was entertaining too. Of the well-known skaters, Kurt Browning has gone that route too (I'm not a fan, but I know he's very popular). I can't possibly know what Daisuke's goal is as an artist. If he tries something entirely new, there's no guarantees he'll repeat his last season success, if he doesn't, someone else will present something fresh and new, and will be remembered for that. I don't know. There is a lot of variety in jazz, I'm curious reg his final choice. I also wonder who is going to choreograph that for him. | |

| Hi guys! I read my post again and it seemed I just posted my favorite songs list. Sorry!! - Euphoria wrote:

Yah, this song was the one which came to mind first. I think Supermassive Black Hole will suit his hot style. - Euphoria wrote:

Wow, how do you know Yoshida Brothers? They are famous in overseas?? Dai-chan said he considered Japanese traditional music, too. So Yoshida Brothers would be a possible choice. Do you have a certain Yoshida Brothers's song you want Dai-can to skate? I don't know well about them. How about Kodo? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kI4Mqb5_jJU - hsuhs wrote:

You are right. People will want to see a more entertaining program from him. It would be difficult….. Though he could create something new beyond our imagination with a good choreographer, as he said he wanted to try new genre. - hsuhs wrote:

Oh, yes. I think Shae-Lynn is good at jazz. Kenji also talked about jazz with Dai-chan before in a figure skating magazine.

Well, I love japanese music very much (j-rock in particular) so it was inevitable to encounter Yoshida Brothers )) I was thinking about Storm. Kodo is so cool! But it's quite a risk to skate something like this ^-^' So maybe it would be more fitting to make some kind of mix of two or three songs where Kodo will be the intro. And the outro, for that matter ))

Thanks. So this is "Storm". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1fTbDJiyrMCool. I'll try to find more! - Euphoria wrote:

Great idea!! Like Kodo - Yoshida Brothers - Kodo, right? Considering 2010 Tokyo Worlds, I really think something Japanese could be a good choice. - hsuhs wrote:
- Reed & Reed used Kodo for their OD this past season. And.... I'm almost afraid to ask, but... does their dance look authentic to you, miyu? Or is it just a collection of silly stereotypes?
Because I really liked the music, I liked the dance, liked the choreo and I liked the dancers (who are just 2nd tier dancers at this point of their career) I think it's good, I like it, hsuhs. What I don't like is their costumes. But as for the choreography, it's nice. Entertaining and not cheap imitation. I much much prefer Reeds' program to Shibutanis'. I read somewhere Reeds and Morozov took classes of Japanese Dancing to choreograph and perform this program. BTW, is this Kodo music is the same which Stojko used in 2002 Olympics? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyRUyRVMMLkDai-chan has a friend (? ) who is a famous Kabuki actor. (I don't think they are so close, but I read a news after the olympic that the Kabuki actor said he wanted to go for a drink with Dai-chan to celebrate.) Probably he can help Dai-chan a little when he does Japanese program.

Kitaro's Kokoro Kitaro could be a good choice, too! - blacksugarbomb wrote:

| Hmmmm I personally adore this piece of jazz, but I don't think it'll fit Daisuke too much if he's looking for something with a similar feel to La Strada like what hsuhs said earlier. Take Five - Dave Brubeck: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwNrmYRiX_oI think Jeffery Buttle used this for a short program before...? EDIT: Fly Me To The Moon - Julie London: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MeLVCeErypYJust something else I adore. Man I listen to old stuff. | |

| Hmmm... It's tough!!! Anyone else have suggestions? EDIT: More Dave Brubeck Quartet? They had an album called Jazz Impressions of Japan. 1."Tokyo Traffic" 5:52 2."Rising Sun" 4:42 3."Toki's Theme" 2:10 4."Fujiyama" 5:05 5."Zen Is When" (Bud Freeman/Leon Pober)2:53 6."The City Is Crying" 6:02 7."Osaka Blues" 5:10 8."Koto Song" 3:02 I'd like to think this would suit Daisuke's idea of having both jazz and a Japanese sort of style. But for a more 'entertainment' oriented piece, I think Toki's Theme would be best? Tokyo Traffic https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCQMUc78pE8Toki's Themehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eX1KO8MndYI | |

| Ruins of Sonora sounds good, but too much lyric (I mean he has already his Luv letter). May be in next season he`d choose something more modern, powerful and incendiary. J-rock why not? | |

According to Wikipedia, the swing is a type of jazz. (But Wiki isn't really reliable nowadays, so I might be wrong) I've also been wondering whether Big band music would be suitable. Big band is an ensemble associated with playing jazz music rather than being a type of jazz, so I think it counts too? Sing, Sing, Sing - Benny Goodman: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhyhP_5VfKMOr jazz fusion anyone? Machete: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwNcWITsbw4
